Hi everyone,
I got married two and a half weeks ago and I'm now about to start changing my name everywhere. I'm planning on going to the banks over the weekend, and I've ordered the forms to change my name on my drivers licence. I'm not going to bother with my passport just yet as it still has about 4 years to go. Is that everything or can anyone think of anything really obvious that I've missed out?
Thanks, xx

littlemissshowoff@kirstysmith Thanks very much! And thanks for the help. I thought that was everything, but it didn't seem like enough My passport will still be valid as I'm keeping my maiden name for work, and I've gone double barrel rather than taking my husbands name. xx

sammykins@kirstysmith your passport is still valid if you have it in your maiden name, so long as you remember to book holidays in the same name, and not your married name! I still have 8 years on my passport so will not be changing mine just yet!
@littlemissshowoff what about utilities, electoral role, mortgage company, dentist, doctors, car insurance?

littlemissshowoff@bumblebeezzz I'm not worrying about the car insurance either because it's due to be renewed next month anyway. It's been great being married - I love being able to call Dougie my husband I was back at work this week - luck you getting so much time off! Have you got your photos? xx
OMG im in the process of doing it at the mo and it's driving me nuts, literally anything you can think of needs to be changed if you want to use your new name on everything:
the ones you said above:
phone bill (mobile and home)
electricity and gas companies
water companies (we have 2!!)
work
tax office (you can do it online)
any reward cards like Boots or Nectar
credit cards
loans that arent with your bank
insurance (car, home, pet, mobile, breakdown)
medical insurance
car log book (as well as driving licence)
council tax (i need to do this at my local office as they have to see the original
thats about all i can think of at the mo! - buy my advice would be get a few copies of your certificate made on the day you get married, its cheaper than doing it later and then you dont need to worry about getting your original back,
good luck! x

as i dont drive i have no driving lisence and use my passport for ID i went to the bank to change my details and they said i couldnt change them without using my married name on my passport. i dont want to change my passport yet so what did everyone else do who havnt changed their passport but changed their bank details. i thought i would just have to hand in marriage certificate but they say no they need the photo ID in new name .

meeeshel@candh I'd ask again surely that can't be right, not everyone has a passport or driving license so marriage cert should suffice! I looked online and for Natwest you only nee proof of name change and details of your account....?

portsmouthjen@candh Try a different branch of your bank - I got duff info once (not about this subject mind you) from a local branch. I went into a branch in a different town and they sorted my problem.
Re changing my name at the bank, I just took in my marriage certificate and they sorted it - my driving license was with DVLA so I couldn't provide it to the bank but it wasn't a problem.

mrsctobe@candh I have just changed over my accounts with Halifax and Nationwide and it was so easy - just go in in person with the marriage certificate, they will take a photocopy and then change it there and then....let us know how it goes xx
My V5 and driving licence have both gone off today, my banks are mostly all changed over and that leaves passport and utility bills....and thanks to whoever it was who said about the tax office - hadn't thought of that! Also the student loan company.....xx

whoa that is quite a list thinking about all the places you have to inform youve changed marital status and name, my passport runs out shortly after the wedding so getting it changed before the wedding, need a form signed by our registrar for that which i have ready to do :D and we have a week between our wedding and honeymoon so i will do all the name changes then, take our marriage cert to the bank, building society, doctors etc, i will move in with my H2B a month before the wedding so all utility bills we'll just add me in my married name to them... and got to remember to inform my work's head office to change name and address too! :D x

goldentramp@kirstysmith your passport should still be valid if you are just changing your name because you got married. As long as you book your honeymoon in the same name as is on your passport.
When you get married and want to change your name to your husband's it's very easy. You just tell people. And more important stuff you just have to send off copies of marriage certificate (although a marriage certificate is not a proof of a name change, just proof you got married).
