Hi girls, we really need your ideas and suggestions on this dilemma. We really like the house we went to view today but is in a different council area than the one we have just given notice in. If we put an offer in and all goes smoothly then we are two months shy of the wedding and would therefore have to give notice in the new council area but the registry office there isn't as grand as St Georges hall and is 6 miles away meaning we would then have to think about putting a coach on etc etc. Our ceremony and reception venue at the minute are within spitting distance of each other. I know a house is more important then the wedding at the end of the day but I really don't want to mess about with everything all over again and pay another fee for giving notice, do the invites all over again yada yada yada. Does anyone have any suggestions about how we could maybe stall anything for another 8 weeks but still put an offer in so we can still get married where we want?? Not asking much am I? ;) xxx

Have you called the registry office and checked if they can change it to the new office? They might just be able to transfer the notices without you having to pay again, if you explain the situation to them! It must happen sometimes! Xx

@give_me_strength No, i'm too scared in case they say we have to get married in the other borough's registry office, if it was just the £67 I wouldnt be overly fussed as long as we got to stay in St Georges hall. I think we've decided just not to say anything and get our mail re-directed if all goes through ok. Hopefully this will mean we're still married though lol x

@joski28 do you have to get married in the registry office you give notice in? I thought you just have to give notice in your local registry office, but can book wherever you like to get married - e.g. you could live 100 miles from where you're getting married, so would have to give notice in your local one but could get married in one miles away?

@meeeshel I'm not sure really, maybe I should just phone and ask, I just assumed you could only get married where you give notice (except if you're getting married at an idependant venue of course). Yeah, I'll give them a ring tomorrow, can't find anything on the site about it. Thanks girls x

No you can get married anywhere you choose, you only havee to give notice in your local one! We were going to get married in one in central London and give notice in our local one so it's not an issue! Honestly! You need to tell then or your marriage might not be legal as your addresses go on the certificate and register! Xx

i think when you give notice the only thing you can change is the date, once you tell them your getting married in a particular place thats it otherwise you have to give notice again, i dont think it would matter if you moved xx
