@seldy2014 Its normal for your skin to be breaking out in spots as exfoliaters and masks help to draw the dirt out of your pours, after another week it should calm down and look fresh, try using NO 7 foaming face wash from boots, i have sensitive skin and i works lovely! Try not to use makeup everyday too as this blocks your pours back up. good luck and all the best xx

@selby2014 some face masks can give you more spots, especially if you have sensitive skin. It may be the face mask, or it may be the face scrub. Many exfoliating scrubs contain fruit acids or the like to help remove any dead skin cells. This can irritate some skin types and cause small rash like spots. If you have fairly oily skin then a clay type mask might be better for you as it will draw out the dirt and any excess sebum. I would then suggest maybe using a cleanser and moisturiser designed for oily skin. Botanics do a very good cleanser that contains clay which will help balance the oils in your skin. Clean and Clear do a very good oil-free moisturiser that would good too. Also, bear in mind that you shouldn't really do face masks much more than once a week, and some exfoiliating products shouldn't be used every day also. Over washing will reduce the layer of natural oils that are there to protect your skin, leaving it more open to the bacteria that can cause spots. A gentle face was and cleanser/toner every day, backed up with a weekly exfoliation & face mask might work best for you. Hope this helps xxx

All I can say is St Ives apricot scrub - it's a gentle face exfoliator and contains salicylic acid which banishes bacteria and oil that cause blemishes - get the one for blackheads and blemishes. Also try not to use too many different products on your face - the tea tree and cucumber face masks etc may seem like a good idea and smell nice but I can say from experience (I've suffered from bad skin for years) that they have little real benefit and using too many different and possibly harsh products just confuses your skin and causes it to produce excess oil - St Ive's I've found to be by far the best - use twice a day it promises to deliver visible improvements after a week and delivers!! You can find it at any chemist or supermarket - it's about £4.00 a tube. Always apply a light oil free moisturiser after cleansing. Also another bit of advise as far as blemishes go - squeeze the oil/puss out if you can (gross I know lol) then apply tcp (or other antiseptic) and leave!!! I hope this helps - I've suffered from terrible skin for years and this is what finally helped for me!! emoticon

Aww thank you ladies.. @charlie11_12_11, i will keep at it for another few days and see how it goes emoticon I very rarely wear face make up. The only make up i wear for everyday use is eyelinear and mascara.. If i do wear foundtion it is a very bare mineral powder.
@lollyjane, thank you it is a clay mask that ive got. One you put on like a foundation and then rinse off after 5 mins. I have already used the face make twice in 3 days, mmm think i will leave it now and like you said do it once a week. I will have to have a look in town for some moisturiser today.
@brideofcharlie Thank you, i will keep it in mind. I do feel an improvement in my skin, it feels healthier n actually looks healthier apart from these spots :/
@boycee thank you, i think i will have to go to one of these xx

@selby2014 Over ex foliating your skin can actually sometimes lead to an increased outbreak in spots as in some cases the ex foliating promotes the production of sebum ( our skins natural oil ) which then makes our skin look more greasy and causes spot outbreaks, If your ex foliating every day cut it down to a couple of times a week, instead, also drinking lots of water can help with improving the appearance of your skin.
I suffer from combination skin, some patches are greasy and some can be dry, I avoid using all soap products on my face and instead cleanse and tone my skin every morning and night before i go to bed with Garniers Soft Essentials range followed by their moisturiser and it really helps my skin x

@selby2014 I can vouch for the over exfoliating = spotty skin result. I use a sensitive facewash by Freederm and it helped me loads, it's really gentle, and I use a tea tree exfoliator once a week. Give it time til your skin calsm down, as changing your routine will upset your skin until it gets used to it x

@selby2014 - i have the same skin type as you, mostly oily but with dry bits round my mouth and the sides of my face - the most important thing to do is to use skin care that's made for your skin type.

I've just started seeing a beautician and having facials, and she's got me onto this new organic make which appears to be working wondered i think it's called essentially yours, they have a website, they arent too expensive. It's made all the difference to my skin and it's got no nasty or harsh chemicals in it and no strong essential oils either, i'd recommend it to anyone, and they do other ranges for other skin types.

I've also started using this Dr Organic range from Holland and Barrett which is made with Manuka Honey and that seems really good too, the exfoliator and the face mask are brilliant.

Most important thing is to be gentle with your skin to see what it can take, i was told to exfoliate only once a week with a gentle beaded wash at first, then as i have oily skin move it up to twice a week (everyone 3/4 days) and do a face pack once a week, again you just have to be gentle.

I've had to learn how to treat my skin and be patient with it, and after 10 years of awful acne this new routine is really working x

@teeniet I've started using Temple Spa products (actually, I'm a 'consultant' for them too) but anyway, I seem to have lost most of the black heads I had on my chin and round my lips. Mum told me the other that 'my skin looks loads better' impying it looked bad before - grrr. I find their stuff really nice as it's all fully natural and my MOH loves it. If she finds she's getting a spot, will put a dab of mud on it and the next day, it's gone. She's 36 and gets the occassional spot. Funny when you go round and she has bits of mud dotted around her face though, lol x

@selby2014 I have terrible skin its super dry and super greasy combination skin, but the spots are probably just a reaction to the exfoliator, stick with it, I started my skin routine a month ago, whilst it was terrible to begin with, it's now the best it's ever been, I don't even wear make up now! But I use St Ives facial scrub 1/2 times a week (I also have a simple gentler scrub, for days when I don't need to exfoliate but feel a bit grimy, stops skin getting too dry) , then I swear by Simple products, look at what each product offers, but I can definitely recommend their washes, toner (I have used both the cheapest one and the pore minimising one dependant on how I'm feeling) and their replenishing moisturiser. I also drink lots of herbal tea, a friend recommended nettle tea, and it has helped with the spots and makes me look just a little more fresh, 1 cup a day!

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
Go for a couple of facials before your big day (dont have one too close to the wedding though, make sure you leave a week before the wedding and your last facial). I have gone for a couple or facials at my local salon and they are great. They recomend what is good for your skin type and they really help to extract the dirt from your pores and then moisturise the skin, making it a lot clearer. They are relaxing and they really do help with your skin, its also a nice little thing to have as a pamper treat in the lead up to your wedding!

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
@mrsjeffrey2be had a similar question about skin care preparation before the big day:
mrsjeffrey2be Hey, well in prep for the big day i want my skin to look its best and i dont want blumin horrible spots all over my face... now i havent got a spotty spotty face but it has a few icle ones on. I dont wear much make up persay usually more eye make up but i do use a daily mostuirser a simple one and now and agen i blend a smidge of moisturiser in it. Then a tad bluser or bronzer. But i was wondering if to go completley bear and see if my skin improves ..... I thought i have been applying mosturiser for years and years and rarley go with out ........ so i am gunna let my skin breathe and see if this works! Anyone else had thoughts on doing this....... ???
2. Sept at 13:17

mshella @mrsjeffrey2be how long have yu got till the big day, I would not do anything diferant in your skin care ruteen for bout a month before (just incase) if you have longer then it would do no harm cos if it dosent work there is enought time to go back to what you were doing.
2. Sept at 13:25

jen_kristin I wouldnt stop moisturising but i would stop with the make-up. I'm like you - no acne but the odd stress spot! So i wash my face with clearasel cream every morning and then moisturise with my anti-wrinkle cream. Its really made a difference to my complexion. Of course I dont moisturise an area if it has a big spot - i let that dry out for a day x
2. Sept at 13:47

mrsjeffrey2be @mshella thanks i have ages yet i have over 8 months so i am thinking now would be a godo time to try seen as i have a bit of time to play with!!! x

@jen_kristin i was thinking of seeing what my skins like on its own with nothing at all no moisurising....... i am wondering if i am upsetting my skins natural balance if you like. I know like moisturising helps and blacnces it but i am wondering if i could do with out.... it will be intresting to see after all these years of cloggig my pours up with stuff,,,,,,,, spots are a blumin pain and i dread waking up with a massive one on the day .............. x
2. Sept at 14:29

jen150912 @mrsjeffrey2be My skin cleared up loads when I stopped moisturising - it was just clogging up my pores and doing more harm than good! I also use freederm facewash which has helped loads x
2. Sept at 15:42

raewright I cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning, but I wear a lot of make up. I would get a good facewash (freederm or simple are both really good) and moisturise only when necessary.
2. Sept at 16:26

mshella @mrsjeffrey2be yer now woiuld def be the time to play round with your skin, mabie go get one of the freebi consultations that you can get at the clinique counter some times in boots
3. Sept at 09:35

mrssteel2b @mrsjeffrey2be Up ur water intake!! I didnt drink any water (hate it, blergh) but wanted my skim 2 look good, so Im now drinkin between 2-4 glasses a day. Been doin this 4 about 2 weeks, and the difference in my skin is incredible!!! xx
3. Sept at 18:10

sebsbride @mrsjeffrey2be For me facial wipes are the way forward, if I run out then I get a spot, simple! I don't moisturise everyday as skin seems to be much better if I do it just a few times a week. If I get spots I normally stick myself in the garden with no make up on and a little bit of sun seems to sort me out. x
3. Sept at 22:07

mrsjeffrey2be @sebsbride @mrssteel2b @mshella @raewright @jen150912 @jen_kristin thanks ladies for all your great ideas and guidance. My plan of action is detox.... love the idea of water .. but hate the taste but might try it .. might help diet wise two birds with one stone and all that lol .... skin wise i think i am just gunna bear it all and see how it goes ,,, if i see no improvement what so i ever i will start using different things like wipes, washes and moistures but i want to give basics ago first! i shall let you all know how i get on in a couple of weeks if any one is intrested lol!! Thanks again ladies xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. Sept at 22:34

sebsbride @mrsjeffrey2be Go you! Water is def the way forward so force it down! x
3. Sept at 22:36

goldentramp I cut something out about skin and shoved it my scrapbook... let me look it up...
- water (obvious, but aim for 8 pints a day)
- oats (ie porridge) to aid digestion so that the skin can rid of toxins
- spinach, helps to protect skin from UV rays and pollution
- dark CHOCOLATE, contains antioxidants
- Oily fish (annoyingly I'm allergic to fish). Doesn't say what it does but it does say to it has 'good' fat in it!
- berries, for their vitamin C
- tomatoes, same as spinach....

I personally don't wear any make-up and never have except maybe at christmas. THe only things I put on it are Nivea daily mosituriser (a fiver) and Boots vitamin E night cream (£3). My skin is soft and rarely spotty. (Basically don't bother buying expensive creams and moisturisers).
Hope that helps x
4. Sept at 08:01

becky260512 I have stopped using chemicals on my skin I used to use quite strong face washes that made my skin yo-yo between beeing really dry and then really oily. I tend to use just a hot clean flannel and if i wear makeup use amakeup remover then a hot flannel. I only moosturise if i have to and only the bits that need it which is usully my cheeks my skin has been loads better but i think everyone is different and you just have to see what works for you
