Hi Girls, is it true that as we are getting married in Portugal (he is Portuguese) that we need to officially marry in the UK first (sign documents) to then have the ceremony out in Portugal? Thanks x

@lyzamineli i think it depends where you get married and if they're licenced... my sister got married in Barbados and it was all official with the one service but my friend got married in Slovenia in a catholic church and had to do a civil ceremony the day before for the official signing of the register etc. Best to check with your venue xxx

I just came across this as I was really hoping to find another bride marrying in Portugal (my husband to be is Portuguese too).

One thing I have managed to find out about is some of the legalities etc. It is easier to get married her and have a blessing in Portugal BUT you need to get a certificate of impediment from the registry office and you may or may not need to have this translated (it depends on the person marrying you). Some website still say you have to be resident for 30days before the wedding but that is old information and no longer applicable.

Its a little complicated which worries me a little, have you got any further with it?

It really depends on where you get married. I have a friend that is getting married in Spain and has to have a ceremony here to make it legal in this country but then I also have another friend getting married in the states and she doesn't. xxx
