Hi all, (my first discussion post as a Mrs emoticon...yay )

Recomendations needed please emoticon we have no idea where to go on our honeymoon. We have about £1200 to spend, thinking of going End of Sept time/beginning of Oct, want to avoid rainy places at that time of year and want to go a bit further afield then spain etc. We really are cluless as we have no where near the amount of money we budgeted for our honeymoon so our dream of Aruba will not be happening unfortunately emoticon

Any ideas...thanks

October is supposed to be one of the best months weather wise for Hawaii, you may be able to find a good last minute deal there. Canaries are pretty good any time of year really, not sure about cost wise though, H2B and I briefly looked at Barbados for a all inc holiday with some friends until we noticed pretty much every hotel had a dress code, especially full length trousers and sleeved and collared shirts for gents in the bars and restaurants on the complex. In 30C heat?! Not for us! You'll probably even get away with a safari holiday, as you're right at the end of the dry season that time of year, which is when the weather's super hot and all the animals are out. Depends what you fancy really, you looking for a relaxing beach holiday or somewhere with lots to do?

If it's £1200 per person you could get a deal to Sri lanka or Mauritius great weather that time of year. If it's between the 2 of you then how about Morocco or Tunisia. Saw a four star all inclusive for 2 weeks in Tunisia last week. X

@raewright not sure where you got that info about barbados but it's wrong - they're slightly more conservative than here but they just don't like people walking into supermarkets topless, or restaurants - we got engaged there last year and H2B wore shorts every day, took his top off to walk along the road and put it back on when going inside somewhere but that's general respect anyway. They couldn't expect people to wear trousers and shirt in that eat no way! the only place i know of that happening is if you go to church there. And possibly the sandy lane which is the hotel of the rich and famous and pretty snooty!

@shell2011 Barbados would be a fab time for it, we paid approx your budget for room only then ate out almost every night - which is the best way, as the best food is in local restaurants and then you see more of the island, like fish fry day at oistins or a night at harbour lights - not to be missed! and it's so safe you can wander all over the place.

xx

@meeeshel I'm sure we were looking through the Virgin site, it was about 6 months ago now so can't remember what resorts we were looking at, but I've just nipped on the website and found this...
DRESS CODE: Smart casual - long trousers and collared shirts for gents. Tailored shorts and smart sandals are permitted in the evenings. No flip flops, sleeveless shirts for men, athletic/beach wear or sports caps in the evenings.
...which was pretty representative of what we saw on almost all the hotels we liked. I can't stand sandals, so I live in flip flops on holiday. And I don't think H2B owns any trousers other than jeans or chords!! I wouldn't expect to be able for either of us to walk around the restaurants topless or anything obviously, but we saw too many 'DRESS CODE' comments and it just put us off.

@raewright I wouldn't worry about that unless you're going to top hotels/restaurants like in the UK you'd have to dress up to go to the savoy or something, I've been 3 times and we've never dressed up to go out, just no vests (for men) or topless men and i know that sunbathing topless as a woman is illegal but other than that they're not that prudish. Virgin prob put that as standard as they have a lot of the very posh hotels where they may be a bit funny but the vast majority only want no topless or baseball caps i think. I wouldn't let it put you off if you really wanted to go it's really not like that at all it's lovely and the people are so friendly - everyone you see on holiday is out in shorts and tshirts too as i say H2B wore shorts or 3/4 lengths every night, i think he took jeans and never wore them.

We'll be getting ideas for this in Sept when we can get 'actual' prices (don't these travel compnaies know I need to know now??!! emoticon ) but we've looked at Hawaii / NYC / San Fran and a few others. Sept is the rainy season is quite a few exotic places so need to be careful of where we choose, don't want to end up getting flooded out!! x

We went to Sri Lanka for our honeymoon at the end of Sept last year. Absolutely loved it. We did a tour so saw lots in the first week, then relaxing all inclusive hotel the second week. Weather was about 30 degrees an we had one rainy day. Mercury Direct do some good deals to Sri Lanka. Otherwise keep an eye out on Travelzoo website.
