So, while we save up money to eventually do our full honeymoon in Japan in a few years' time, h2b and I are going to Scotland for ten days after the wedding (Monday the 29th August to Wednesday the 7th of September, I believe.) We'll be staying in Edinburgh, and we already know that we'll go to the zoo there; we also know that we'll be going to Loch Lomond at some point, since that's where I went years back and loved it to little tiny pieces. And we figure we should probably do Loch Ness while we're there, and try to fake some pictures.
But! What else should we do? Where shall we go in your fine country? Your recommendations please!

you should definately go north up to ullapool, totaly stunning there. visit some islands. I personally recommend Isle of Arran. I lived there for 10 years, it is beautiful, it is called 'scotland in miniture' perth & pitlochry is gorgeous too. You also must must must go to glasgow it is the best city ever xxx

jen150912@quoth_the_raven Please come to Glasgow! It's a beautiful city - so much to see! It's on hour on the train from Edinburgh, and you'll be right in the middle of the city when you arrive.
Kelvingrove Museum
Kelvingrove Park
Transport Museum (just opened, I'm going on Saturday!)
Science Centre
House for an Art Lover
Scotland Street Museum
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/AboutGlasgow/ will give you more information and places to visit - I've drawn a total blank now! I'd also have a go of the open top tour bus, it's one of my 'things to do' this year...
In Edinburgh the bus tour is also good - I did it earlier in the year. The Edinburgh Dungeons is a great experience - I'm not as brave as i thought I was apparently
There's a Sea Life Centre at Loch Lomond that is a must visit - even just to see Shona, Mona and Rona, the resident otters!

mrsmorrisontobe@quoth_the_raven we just had a couple of days in Edinburgh for the Bon Jovi concert- apart from the concert the best thing was a tour of the underground city called Mary Kings Close- dead interesting but book in advance on the internet as we had to wait till the next day for our tour
Glasgow is officially on the list! We'll do it. Isle of Arran sounds good, although I think I'll only be able to do one island, owing to a terrible fear of water, but we'll see. Definitely going to the Sea Life Centre! And any museums we happen to walk past. Do you pay for museums in Scotland? They're totally free in Wales since the Assembly came into being - Wales really likes funding education and the arts - so I always forget that other places still charge sometimes.
There's a point - anyone know of any archaeological sites of interest?
Cheers guys!

mrsmorrisontobe@quoth_the_raven I think it'll be right up your street so to speak! Not tacky like the dungeons (wouldn't waste your money) a tour guide takes you round and tells you the stories of the people and animals! that lived there etc took about 1 1/2 hours I think.
Our hotel was lush if you haven't booked Ten Hill Place 5 mins from Royal Mile so near enough but nice and quiet- modern comfy hotel with massive bed and we got a free room upgrade to a superior room for no reason at all

kayren555@quoth_the_raven most museums are free in glasgow too. if you are only doing one island deffo go with arran as it is 55 mins on ferry only an hour from glasgow. If you do that you really need to go to arran aromatics and the isle of arran distillery and a wee visit to james' chocolate shop, he learned the tricks of the trade in belgium and are to die for lol

jen150912@quoth_the_raven As far as I know the museums are free (I know the Transport Museum is anyway), but you'd have to pay for the Sea Life Centre etc.

I'm a glasgow girl as well and I would definitely recommend it! It's a beautiful place with loads to do.
@jen150912 Did you know that there's a ghost tour in Glasgow too? If you do know about it, do you know what it's like? I only found out about it recently.
Other places I've been to that I love are Dornoch (north, past Inverness), Oban (and from there you can go to the island of Mull for the there) and Pitlochery. I love Arran as well, and Bute is nice too.

katiedarlin@peaches and you only have to go over a bridge to get to skye now! no boats. we are going to skye for our honeymoon it might be a bit far for you to travel from edinbugh and back in a day tho
i would also recommend glencoe if you are in hills it is stunning!
in glasgow the museum in kelvingrove park is free and quite good it has a mix of science and art.
if you want to stay east then deeside and tayside are both nice areas.
alnwick (pronounced annick) is a nice place in the boarders for you to stop off on your journey up.
