  • Do not know when the wedding will be
hi, im turning julia and i'm turning 50 this year and about to become a bride in september . Havn't got a clue what to wear dispite trying on loads of dresses , i keep asking myself am i too old to wear a wedding gown , or as we are getting married in a registery office do i need to wear one . We have both been married before and have lived together for over 10 years . I m not a small size(16) , but i really would like to look beautiful for him as im always in jeans and tshirt (we rarely go out as i have a disabled son) and this is such an occassion where i can look my best .
I love all the ideas and so glad i found this site . All my friends are married and havnt really time to help me with ideas so at the moment im trying to find something i like and plan around that , without much luck , so with only 7months osgo , we only have a reception hall book and the dj . ( we are not having a wedding breakfast , just an eve party(with loads of yummy food ) as we really can't afford it . emoticon

Hi and welcome to the site! You will love it!! My MIL (to be) recently re-married and she is a size 14-16, in her mid 50's! She wore a beautiful knee length dress and looked amazing so def never too old to wear a gown...ha ha!! The dress she wore was similar to this:

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
hi , thanks for your replies . I have been busy trying to get on with my list of things to do , ie cars , photographer, etc. What a suprise we got , i cant believe how expensive every thing is , it seems that you put wedding on anything and it doubles the price .
We are trying to keep our costs down and im refusing to pay such silly prices for such basic things. I'm also fiding it difficult as so many things are booked already . We have so far our venues , DJ and Photographer. Still cant decide on what to wear and did others find that when you went into a wedding dress shop they looked at you and shook their heads when you say the wedding is in september , does it really take 4months to make a wedding dress. Sorry to be so down , didnt think it would be this hard and we are only having a small do , i wish you ladies out there good luck and huge hug if your planning a big wedding , its a crazy wedding world.......

@jules50 Congratulations!!! Sounds like the perfect opportunity to dress to the nines, but you are right things are very expensive. Have you thought about going and trying on different style dresses, finding a particular style that suits you (ie knee length, traditional A Line etc) and then checking out some onling wedding dress shops. There will be no problem getting it made for September and it will be much cheaper! If friends dont have time to go dress shopping with you maybe they can spare an hour or so to trawl websites looking for dresses instead??

I agree with Gina, if you cant wear what you want on your wedding day, then when can you? Whilst you have a lot less time than lots of brides here, l dont think you will have a problem getting what you want/need. As for the budget, we are on a tight budget to, its sometimes difficult to find what you want, but lm finding it quite rewarding getting what l want and knowing l havent paid too much money that l will regret later.
Most of all enjoy the planning x

 Hi @jules50
I was like you this time last year, decided in Jan to get married in september, I went dress shopping in feb and then again in march, I was surprised to find that my dress had come down in price as had a march sale. dress reduced to £295! had it altered to fit me perfectly (and bump). You will find loads of shops selling their shop stock off cheap to make way for the new summer lines.
Bhs was good for young ones and hubby. Even the likes of TK Maxx have bridal dresses.
I found my photographer on gumtree, loads advertise their.
You'll find loads of help on this site.
Enjoy planning x

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
hi , just to say thanks for the replies and to say i have found my dress.
I went into a local shop and said i didn't mind what type of dresses they choose for me to try on , it was fun and very exciting and then i came to the last dress , (something that i wouldn't have picked out myself) . I put it on and became very emotional , it looked great and i felt great in it . The three ladies in the shop all said how wonderful it looked on me .
To be sure i was making the right choice i went back on saturday with my two closest friends , they both loved it and although they both agreed it was something they wouldn' t have picked out for me agreed it was the one . So i have signed on the dotted line and now i wait the 4 months for it to come in .
The diet has already started and the dress will look even better when i have lost another stone .
