My friend got married in may last year and in the June she did a trash your dress shoot with her photographer. She got some amazing photos. One of her photos was in vogue magazine. She went to the beach and went in the water in her dress on and in a river. Her dress unlike the name of the shoot did not get trashed. I am going to be doing this after our wedding with the h2b. I was just wondering if anyone else was doing this?

That's a great idea! I totally agree - wedding dresses should not be hidden away wrapped in tissue paper and never worn again..... I had a wedding dress party about 6 months after my wedding, asked friends to wear their wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses if they had them. Men were strictly NOT allowed and it was just such a laugh!!!

@littlemissshowoff : Good for you - I can't recommend it enough!!! Question is, could I still get into it now, two babies later? I haven't had a wedding dress party for about 9 years...... Maybe time for another just to see emoticon!!

I would love to do a 'rock the frock' shoot after the wedding and would love to take on honeymoon (but would be hell to pack and fly to Kenya and not look stupid wandering round in it lol). I'm definately keeping mine and hoping to maybe hand it down if I have a little girl someday! @lucy_d love the idea of a dress party too! 3 of my friends are all getting married the same year as me so we could maybe do it the year after :D x

Trash the dress is like rock the frock. You don't have to trash your dress its just the name of the shoot. I did hear of someone burning there dress and riding a motor bike over it but I won't be going that far. Xx

I've never heard of these 'Trash the Dress' shenanigans. What is it? My plan to wear mine afterwards is to have a maskerade mask made to match it, and then lots of maskerade balls. And, as we're a very social group, H2B and I want to hold a 'mini-wedding' on our anniversary, where we all get dressed up again. I'm considering a silk bouquet instead of real flowers at the minute, so I could even re-use that.

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
 jetsettingbride Hi Guys,

I know a photographer who is looking to start a Portfolio for his Trash the Dress, and obviously offers the photo session for free. Would you do it, or not do it, and why?

Happy discussions
27. Oct 2010 at 18:06

jennsmith84 I am going to do it. My friend did it last year and she got some absolutely amazing photos. Her dress is still in great condition x
27. Oct 2010 at 20:47

aisling No way, I've seen some photos of Trash the Dress shoots and they do really wreck it, love my dress, could not do anything bad to it!
@jennsmith84 How did your friends dress survive?
27. Oct 2010 at 22:23

jennsmith84 @aisling She didnt do anything to major with her dress she went in a poppy field, a river and in the sea. One of the pictures sitting in the river ended up in vogue xx
27. Oct 2010 at 22:42

lawsontribe i want to do this but then my chap said i can hav e a second wedding dress, obviously cheaper than the first i have a fishtail dress for my big day and getting big princess one for the trash the dress photos i think its a nice idea, i couldnt do it if he said no to another dress not with how much i paid and my little girls keep asking if they can have my dress, i know its many many years away as my eldest is 6 but i hope one of the three girls will want it after ofc trying lots on themselves XD
28. Oct 2010 at 00:50

loz2879 i think a trash the dress suit is an awesome way to get some fantastic artistic shots of you in you dress!!! if you dont want to go in thhe sea or river, my photographer also does a rock the dress shoot where you have a photo shoot in random locations but dont ruin the dress like you would in a trash the dress shoot!! x
28. Oct 2010 at 02:06

aisling @jennsmith84 Thank you, the pictures I had seen really trashed the dress. Your friends experience actually sounds like fun.

@jetsettingbride What sort of photos does your friend want and where is he based?
28. Oct 2010 at 09:24

dinzinelli I couldn't bare to ruin my dress, but I'm already sad that I only get to wear it once! Think a rock the dress is a much nicer idea and you could still get it a bit mucky, without ruining it.

@jetsettingbride I'd also love to know where they're based and what he wants...
28. Oct 2010 at 14:49

mrs2b omg just googles it and looked at some pictures, i would not do this no way, after paying all that money for a dress mud n wet n stuff is not my idea of fun! haha if i did it with a cheap dress it looks quite fun tho!
28. Oct 2010 at 15:22

lf1975 @jetsettingbride I've been wondering what to do with my dress. Can you send me some details please x
28. Oct 2010 at 17:29

littlemissshowoff I love the idea of doing this but I'm slightly wary of how trashed the dress could end up being. I've seen 'Cherish the dress' photoshoots as well so I'm thinking about doing that instead.
28. Oct 2010 at 17:53

willnotbite ohhh no never! lovely pictures some are really stunning but I want to get buried in my dress :D
28. Oct 2010 at 21:50

jones1985 yeh i think this is something i would do with my dress after my wedding. im out going & up for things like this, i use to do modeling so cameras, outgoing etc etc is all me. obviously have to ask h2b but dont think he would mind anyway as he backs me up in everything i do. could you send me the info etc etc please! x
28. Oct 2010 at 23:09

jones1985 just looked at both rock the dress & trash the dress & DEFO would do this!!! thers some great outgoing pictures, looks good fun & something i would do after my wedding!! x
28. Oct 2010 at 23:13

jetsettingbride Woohoo, I'm going to do mine, next year, firstly horse riding (I grew up around horses) do a bit of jumping, and riding on a beach. Hubby and me on a beach, and playing with the dogs in the sea (as the dogs cannot join us on our wedding day in sa... Hopefully the sand will come out of the dress after the dry cleaners.
29. Oct 2010 at 18:41

sues07 i've spoken to my photographer about this as i dont want my dress after! shes quite looking forward to it i think! were doing paint and mud though and my kiddies!
30. Oct 2010 at 09:36

jetsettingbride @sues07 That is going to look amazing... please post the pictures once you have done it
30. Oct 2010 at 09:59

ruthee Would never do trash the dress, but having read this discussion I have been and looked up Rock the Frock and would be tempted to do that with J when we get back from our honeymoon......just depends if I can persuade him to get all suited and booted again!!
30. Oct 2010 at 10:59

mrscoe2b @littlemissshowoff Thats what I am going to do aswel, trash the dress looks amazing but like a few of the others have said you dont spend that amount of money to trash it!plus cherish the dres you can still go abit more mad than you perhaps do on the day!x

me too, I absolutely want to do this. I am actually gonna use a different dress for this shoot as I want to sell my lovely wedding dress after the wedding. And as the second dress was a second-hand one off ebay it didn't cost me much, so I can go aaaaaaall the way into the muddy shots with it if I want to lol emoticon If anyone can recommend a good photographer in Yorkshire who would do this for a reasonable price please let me know x

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
@pinkbatgirl was also wondering whether anyone has/have had a trash the dress shoot:
pinkbatgirl Has anyone done a Trash the Dress photo session or are you considering it?

I've got a copy of my dress on it's way to me because I piled on weight on steroids but it looks like my diet & fitness plan is working and I'm going to be able to fit into my proper dress again and I'm thinking a Trash the Dress session in the copy could be fun without ruining my mega-expensive one
25 Mar at 21:41

mrsmander2b @pinkbatgirl I have a Trash the dress booked for after our wedding and i cant wait to do something a little different, I am using the same photographer so will be a laugh x
25 Mar at 22:08

nextmrstaylor @pinkbatgirl it will be great if your able to do that, that way you can have all the fun of a 'trash the dress' photo shoot and still have your dress all perfect and packed away without being ruined
25 Mar at 22:20

pinkbatgirl And I actually just got permission from my H2B for it as well - he said he'd have been upset if I'd wanted to do that to my proper wedding dress but he's fine with me ruining the copy ^_^

Now my CB is asking if she can chuck paint at me

Anyone got any good Trash the Dress ideas?
26 Mar at 09:49

katiedarlin @pinkbatgirl do you have a beach/ slow flowing river/ lake near you... i have seem some fab black and white pics of people in fantastic settings sitting down in the water/ paddling.
also some nice ones of horseriding/climbing/ dog walking
26 Mar at 11:10

pinkbatgirl @katiedarlin I'm in York so we have the River Ouse but that doesn't really make for good photos for getting into it, unless it floods again of course

I'm thinking something zombie-inspired might be the way to go, maybe in a woods if I can find some...?
26 Mar at 11:41

cicmatag I want to do it too, I bought a dress off ebay ages ago that I can't get rid of so I might as well get some good photos out of it. I have a full album of ideas in my photoblog, have a look x
26 Mar at 11:54

pinkbatgirl @cicmatag Thanks, I'll take a look
26 Mar at 15:22

bridalbridle I really want to do this too and happy to do it in my real dress as it's not like I'll be wearing it again! We have really nice woodland near us so going to do some stuff sitting in bluebells or maybe climbing trees.

@sophie2bgillies I love the idea of taking it on the honeymoon - we're going to visit some relatives in Texas and dress on horseback could be super cool. Plus sister-in-law who we're going to see is a professional phorographer!

I absolutely want some photos taken in some unusual locations but while I love the idea of jumping in a muddy puddle or something with it I really can't bear the idea of ruining my lovely frock so I'm thinking a few unusual shots instead- we're hoping to honeymoon by the sea in scotland so I plan to take a few shots on the beach in wellies- not quite the same but it'll do me!

At one of the wedding fayres we went to I met a photographer who had a few of his albums on display. I recognised one of the models as my high school class mate. I thought she looked familiar so got chatting to the photographer. Anyway he said that they bought a cheap wedding dress from a charity shop and used it to get muddy/wet etc. shots and they turned out amazing.
I think this is a brilliant idea, if you don't want to ruin your precious dress, buy a cheap one from ebay or a charity shop for under £100 and you can do whatever you want in it - water, mud, oil, paint, fire ;)
