 Hi,
I have a question for all brides that I really need some honest feedback before I get ahead of myself.

For the last few years I’ve been collecting ‘shabby chic, vintage’ plates, tea-sets, glassware, bunting, and flowers for my own wedding next year....including a couple of vintage wedding dresses that were too beautiful not to buy, even though I won’t be wearing them myself. The collection now takes up the entire garage and it could be argued that I have got a little carried away!! emoticon oops!

Anyway, the other night I was thinking about what I am going to do with all these things after the wedding when I had a massive brainwave. Basically, I have all the tools to start my own little boutique vintage wedding hire company for boho brides on a budget. But is it a good idea?

Below is what I was thinking I could offer:
- Vintage wedding dress & accessory hire
- Vintage styled silk flowers hire (for the bridal party/reception decor)
- Vintage tea-cups, cutlery, plates, tea pots, vases, decanters, vintage cut glass hire
- Handmade floral bunting hire
- Bespoke invites & wedding stationery (I’m a brand/graphic designer by trade)
- Bespoke Wedding cake (My sister-in-law who runs her own cake business)
- Bespoke Cupcakes/biscuit wedding favour (again by my sister in-law)

I really am excited to do something and think there is a market for indie/boho brides who want that vintage/shabby chic look without breaking the bank. I just want to break away for the 9-5 and do something creative which I really enjoy. I dont want to rip people off and was thinking I would offer out the above at £1000 for a vintage 'package'.

I would really appreciate your feedback. Is this a rubbish idea? Would people be interested in this? Or should I stick to the day job?

Thank you.

@kurlie I think thats a wonderful idea and if I hadn't already got my wedding booked and paid for (nearly) then it would certainly be something I would consider. Good luck and keep us informed on how it goes emoticon xx

Sounds like you have everything needed, may I suggest you take a look at the websites and services of other companies offering similar things, such as:

 @kurlie Brilliant Idea!
Might I also suggest you contact local companies to see if you can work in conjunction with them (earn commission) such as ice cream cart and vans, candy floss and toffee apple suppliers and maybe get the gear in for "candy buffets" jars, scoops, tongs etc.
Good Luck

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
@kurlie I think that's a great idea, as you have virtually everything somebody could need for a vintage wedding so I reckon most brides wanting vintage as their theme would be really grateful to have a wedding in a box for only £1000, that will be a really great deal xx

i think that it is a fab idea and a bargain
however you should take in to account the life of those vintage dresses....they may not cope with repeated cleaning and therefore you should allow for this in what you charge and i would make sure you have a reasonable deposit to allow for replacements with breakages etc of the crockery.

I love this idea and hiring out wedding accessories is fantastic. I've stopped myself from purchasing certain things due to the price tag and the 'what would I do with it after the wedding' factor!!
I would suggest the likes of Ebay and wedding fayres to increase business. Good Luck xxx
