Hi there, just needed some girly chat..... I am 38 - 9 stone 3 and feeling pretty crap about myself. I gave up smoking about a year ago and have put on about 8 lb in weight - which I just cant shift.. I feel flabby and really down on myself. I am watching what I eat, I have swapped blue milk for red and no bread etc etc etc etc the list goes on but still nothing I am just so miserable about the way I look :O( - I try not to be vain but its important to me to look nice and feel good about myself but this is the first time in my life that I am not .. I get married in Sept 2012 and I have my dress but I am yet to try it on properly - I reckon that I will have muffin top and look crap.... just really low any hints or ideas would be appreciated xx

I would love to be your size, you must have been sooo tiny before, I'm 26 and 10 stone 2 and have so far lost half a half a stone and been stuck at this weight for a month now, I think you (like myself) have got as far as you can dieting and now it's time to step up the exercise, you can only loose so much through diet but to be perfectly honest and tell you that you really don't need to lose any weight, if I was you weight I would be so happy and as my h2b always reminds me it could be alot worse xxx

I'm 35 and weight about 4 stone more than you, I would love to be 9, 3. I was really worried about looking awful in my dress and what people would say, especially as my family can be very critical. I tried to lose weight but didn't manage to lose much due to stress and generally being crap at dieting and exercise. I had a little bolero cardigan to cover my arms as I just don't do bare arms and I felt a million dollars on the day!
It's difficult getting used to being a different weight, I would love to be a size 12 again, try what you can to shift those few pounds but you can't let it ruin your wedding. You are you and you will look fabulous on your day no matter what your weight!

Everyone is right... lm 5'2 and currently 9.7, would like to lose weight. But to be honest its not all about the weight its how you feel about it. Obviously its really affecting you, maybe you could get an idea of what people around you think of your weight, Its easy to get a picture in your head of what you think you look like, and its completely wrong and not how people see you. In my eyes looking too skinny is as bad as looking over weight (which your not anyway). I think toning could help you feel better about your body rather than losing weight as such.
Before l went to try on dresses ( l was bigger than l am now) l thought l would look really fat and horrible. But all the dresses l tried on looked really slimming. Im sure you will look amazing.

@mrsd2012 Oi Lightweight! Lol. I wish I was your weight.
I'm currently a 5ft3 12 stoner!
I'm of a large frame - all boobs and bum.
You, gorgeous lady, might benefit confidence wise from some toning exersize. Maybe some yoga, or pilates.
My personal fave however, is sitting on the sofa with firstly cans of beans graduating up to 2 litre bottles of drinks for my arms and then my heaviest boots (timberlands) for leg raises. xxx

@mrs2012 I, like @munchkin, am a 12 stoner! It's mostly boobs (36F) and belly (wine lol) I DETEST exercise, so walking the dog is the most I do just now, as well as running after my little Rainbows and Brownies twice a week! After being berated by a good friend 'for letting myself go(!) I'm on track for eating better, smaller portions, and trying to do more exercise. I want to get down to a 12 for wedding, so hopefully I'll get there! I don't think I'll ever be 9st 3 - even though I'm only just over 5ft, it won't suit me as I'm quite chunky! Remember that your dress will more than likely have boning/corset in it to pull you in, so even the biggest of brides will have a figure to make their' hubby's eyes pop ;) xx

@mrsd2012 I'm 5'2 and like @jen150912 and @munchkin79 i'm just over 12 stone and hoping to lose a lot of weight before the wedding. I used to be a size 8/10 until last year when i was signed off work for 6 months with depression and that's when i put on a lot of weight and i'm now having a very hard time shifting it. I dreaded trying on dresses and i think i settled too early for a dress that i thought i loved just because i couldn't bear trying on anymore dresses that didn't fit. Then i actually found the one and although it didn't fit perfectly it looked fab and as it's a corset with a lace up back it will allow me to lose weight and still fit me. So i changed my mind on my dress and i am so happy that i did.

I wish i was your weight, and it sounds like you really might just need to tone up and you have time to do it before the wedding. I do get that it's important to feel and look good for your wedding, but until you try on the dress you don't know that you won't. You may just be surprised, i certainly was and i'm sure you will look amazing. And if you don't think you look as good in your dress as you would like to at least you would be able to identify the areas that you would need to work on. Sometimes the best motivation comes from just figuring out what needs to be done to make yourself feel better.

For me, i'm starting to go running twice a week with h2b once he's recovered properly from the operation he had last week. This helps me because if i was going on my own i wouldn't be motivated to do it, but h2b pushes me to do it because i want to look good for him as much as for me.

Perhaps you could get together with a friend and take a class or even just do something at home together?

I really feel your pain, and i hope you find something that works for you soon

I wish i had all your girls worries i am 21 stone and only 25 in the recent months have lost 4 stone; i have medical problems that causes me to be so big and also causes me to loose weight very slowly and diffucltly.

so please stop worrying you all be ok, if ure h2b's love u now they will love u always and i no that from learning the hard way because my h2b has had to care for me and at one point give up work to look after me from day one of us being together.

So stop worrying about weight and just enjoy the excitement on the build up to the big day.

Sorry to anyone if this sounds harsh or has offended anyone but i say it to all my friends too that they need to try standing in my shoes for a day.

 Hi there emoticon

I've got exactly the same problem. I quit smoking 8 months ago and managed to put 2 stones during that time. I've tried everything. Exercise, diets that used to work wonders and nothing seems to help. A nurse explain that after giving up smoking your metabolism slows down even by 50% and this is due to your body not needing to get rid off the toxins any more and not being stimulated by nicotine and going "on holiday" and slowing down.
I feel really depressed about it too. I'm getting married in July and I am determined to go back to size 10. Maybe we should stay in touch and motivate each other? Yesterday I bought these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lida-MZT-soft-slimming-pills/dp/B005HUS0PA/ref=sr_1_1...
I've done my research online (Meizitang tablets) and going to give them a try and see how I feel. You do need to be careful with these as they are quite controversial. They should arrive today or tomorrow and I am very curious if this is something that will finally help me.

Thanks luvbugangel. I am aware that I need to be very careful with them. My grandad is a pharmacist and he did say that people do take them for weight loss, but the pills are strong and if there are any side effects they should not be taken. I made sure those ones are not fake.

Whether we all say what a fab weight you are wont make you feel any more comfortable. It is very common for people to put on weight after smoking because even thought they break the addiction to nicotine, generally the frequent habit of putting 'hand to mouth' is not tackled. Therefore you literally substitute the cigarettes for food. Sounds simple when you think about it, and yet its surprising nothing more is done about it.

Im interested in why you decided to give up bread!! Carbohydrates have a bad reputation for some reason, expecially when the likes of wholemeal and wholegrain carbs are actually very good for you. Bread and potatoes inparticular seem to be the first things to be given up when on a diet. Really and truly its not the carbs themself which are bad for you, but generally what you put on the bread etc.

I certainly wouldnt recommend slimming pills - the main side effect is severe diarrhea, which isnt pleasant. Plus you need to take them alongside a healthy diet anyway. I see alot of patients who try to use these as a quick fix and are very disappointed when they cant go out anywhere as they need to stay by a toiley - yuk!!

If you have tried eating healthily, have you tried exercising? If so and nothing is happening I would consider seeing your GP for a blood test in case you have a thyroid problem. Or do you have any medical condition or medication which may be holding you back from achieving your goal weight??

@mrsd2012 i really wouldnt worry about being 9st 3, thats actually a really light weight. I'm 5ft 4 and 11st 4 (like @jen150912 mainly boobs, I'm a 36F thanks to the doctors swapping and changing my contraceptive pills constantly... seriously girls wanting boob jobs, save yourself £3000 and change your pill a few times, same result without floating!)
Its probably a bit of an expensive option but have you thought of booking a photo shoot. its an amazing confidence boost (and as much as it'd upset Gok to say it, you dont have to be naked, tho i'm sure your h2b wouldnt complain emoticon) and it's something you can keep after (if you get h2b in on it too you can get some fab pics for round the house. or if you go to somewhere like fyeo you can make a gift to leave him before the wedding).
Its up to you like, but it sounds like you dont need to worry about dieting (and def not slimming pills), you just need a bit of a confidence boost and have your eyes opened to how pretty you really are x

@mrsd2012 @joannna and any other brides looking for some weight loss support and motivation, there was a great thread started by @aisling http://www.finalstitch.co.uk/forum/thread/weight-loss-race-record-of-losses/ where people could share their stories week by week.
There was also a great thread about people's weight loss tips here: http://www.finalstitch.co.uk/forum/thread/wedding-weight-loss-tips/?collapse=...
Good luck if you want to try and tone up/lose weight, and this is why I love FS, a place where people can share, discuss openly and relate emoticon And in doing so, come up with a decision/solution. xx
