hi just wondering if anyone knows if you can have a full make-up application at a department store counter, as I am not a big make-up wearer but would like to wear some on the day without the expense of hiring a make-up artist. I'm on a budget lol

Most of the counters charge ~£20 but knock it off your purchases after. Benefit is free I think It very much depends on who you get to do it though. I had one done at bobby brown last year (not a full makeover) cos i wanted some new ideas but hated what they did. Way too full on for me. However i got a voucher for a dior one at debenhams when i registered interest in their gift lift and she was fab. Are you thinking of doing this on your wedding day or are you planning on buying some to do yourself?

kookiebek@luvbugangel I had a clarins and a benefit makeover and they did it for free one at Huse of Fraser and one at Boots, I just said I was testing products ready to buy for my wedding and they happily did it. I was in particular very happy with the Clarins one xx

cicmatag@luvbugangel I always had full makeup done and never had to pay a penny. Clinique, Benefit, Smashbox and BareMinerals all did this for free for me. Just tell them that you're planning to do your own wedding makeup and looking for good quality stuff with good coverage etc. If you tell them what your dress is like and what your colour scheme is they should be able to do your make up as you want it. Also ask them to write down the names/shades of the products they used. Also have a good look at the person at the counter, if they wear very heavy / slutty make up, avoid at all costs! In my photoblog you can find a few examples of trials I've had.

Yea you can and what a great way to save money!! I've had it done before and it was free as long as I bought 2 products. So Id recommend the lipstick they use!!
@cpk thinking of going on my wedding day b4 i go for my hair done it will wrk out cheaper 2 buy products rather than having someone come to me coz they are wanting in region of £100.

clareandjason2012@luvbugangel do recomend benefit, givenchy and clinique for makeovers, like all the other ladies have said they are free if you buy a couple of products, mention its for your wedding day ive done this a couple times and the ladies are allways helpful and make sure the shades-colours they use suit you, to give you an idea for it might be an idea to visit a couple counters before your big day and book a session so you know youve got a definate appointment xx

i used clinique
go for a few trials then buy a few bits and they will even book you in for lessons on how to apply it yourself. i bought most of what i needed and probably spent what a pro would of cost but now i have a lovely makeup bag with lots of nice bits in it.

cicmatag@luvbugangel I never bought anything and it was still free. Just act like you're planning to buy the whole range (that's why you need to ask them to write a list for you), one or two after pay day every month.
Say you'll come back next weekend as you're just before pay day and skint and just walk off. ;)
If you really like the products you will buy them anyway. Also if you sign up for the Debenhams Beauty Card you get 10% off BareMinerals have starter kits which include mini versions of their products - good if you don't normally wear make up so you don't have to buy full size products. Mind you they are quite dear, around £45 for the face set, there is also an eyes & lips set I think at a similar price.

As long as you have the time in the morning hun, what a fab idea! Definitely try benefit! My friend had a make over done there as she never wears make up usually and she looked lovely!

I had a trial done at Clarins counter in Boots. I was so impressed, I bought half the stuff - she showed me how to put it on properly and everything. I had a professional do my makeup on the day, but for my honeymoon if I was going out, I recreated the look myself. I have never used bronzer before, now I LOVE it! And I put my foundation on with a foundation brush cos I love the way it goes on for me Definitely recommend it!

What a good idea, I might try that. I had a make up trial with the lady that will be doing it on the day and I wasn't overally happy with it. We dont have a department store where I'm getting married. But will get some ideas then pass it onto the lady with make up say what I'd like. I felt like I had too much foundation on.
