Do not know when the wedding will be
nextmrstaylor
Me and my hubby 2 be are now considering the possibility of getting married abroad as were ever we look the price is getting ridiculous, especially as we would have about 90 people for the wedding breakfast, h2b did come with idea of just having parents and siblings attend the wedding and daytime, then I thought if we're going to do that why not get married abroad if it's gonna cost around the same, and then when we come back we have a big party for everybody who wasn't there - another thought is we could always say to people we are getting married abroad and if they wanted to join us there then they are more than welcome but make it clear they pay for themselves (which is what we would have to do for parents and siblings aswell).
Does anybody have any ideas about where's best, i'm thinking of maybe Cyprus or Greece, if we do go abroad we're still thinking of an aumtun (sept/oct) wedding

Have you considered Italy, myself and fiance are getting married there in 2 weeks. Great scenery, food and weather! If you are doing it off season, it works out really reasonable. We are only having our immediate family attending. If you arrange a wedding planner too, she does everything! Stress free wedding! Would highly recommend.

Do not know when the wedding will be
nextmrstaylor@laurac83 We've not really thought of Italy, I would of thought it would be quite expensive to get married there. I'm off to town today to get some brochures from the travel agents so should get some good ideas from there x

We are doing this - getting married in France (because we live there) with just a few close family members and then having a large party in the UK in the summer. You will need to check residency requirements; France I'm guessing wouldn't be an option for you as you need to have lived in the country for 40 days prior to the ceremony. It's also important to check what paperwork is required and how recently they want it to be dated, no matter what country you choose; you'd be surprised how silly a country can get about this. In France (for instance) all paperwork has to be dated within three months of the wedding, which meant me paying to get the paperwork done when we wanted to book the wedding (about a year in advance) and then paying for it to be done again the requisite 3 months ahead. This was very annoying, especially because the translator who did my birth certificate literally just changed the date on it, pressed print, and got €60 from me for her trouble (I'd thought that she wouldn't have been allowed to hang on to the original translation that she did due to data protection but obviously I was wrong :/ )

nextmrstaylor@angelil thanks for the tips, gees that daft about what they do in France, we've not really thought of any places jsut yet, really only toying with the idea at the mo, though on the cd I mentioned earlier we came accross this gorgeous castle in Germany, which is not somewhere I would of thought of getting married before, but it is beautiful and I'd love to go to Germany one day, my great grandparents are from Germany, I've requested a brochure so should soon find out prices

oliviahouston@nextmrstaylor hey we are getting married in cyprus in july we are haven a party back home for everyone who cant make it! i would say the most expensive part of are wedding if the holiday package itself! so you can def save lots of money! we are lucky enough to have over 30 people comeing to cyprus with us! and as u said everyone is paying for themselves they are treating it like there summer hols we will pay for there dinner on the day and if we can afford it we plan to pay for drinks(have to wait and see how bugets is 1st) as for legal stuff you only have to be in the country 5 working days before wedding! there is legal documents u need here it depends on what sort of passport you have we have irish passports so you may be differnt! i looked on the irish emebessay wedsite found all the info there! before we booked i just typed in places to get married in cyprus for example and looked at all the wedsites plus reviews til i found the one i wanted! xxx

Do not know when the wedding will be
nextmrstaylor@oliviahouston Wow! it will be gorgeous there, I remember when I went on holiday to Cyprus with the family about 6 and a half yrs ago and were we stayed there was a couple who were staying there that were getting married and they had a lot of family with them, they got married at some little church, can't remember if they went for a meal afterwards but i know when they came back to the hotel they had decorated the outside eating area for them, it was lovely, thats good about only having to be in the country for 5 days before hand, and we both have british passports though mine is at least 2 years out of date so will have to get a new one before going and then get it changed again when we get back ggrrhh xx

Do not know when the wedding will be
nextmrstaylor@oliviahouston yeh im gonna have to get a new passport before going abroad again, was gonna do it a few years ago so i could go visit my sister in the dominican republic (she was running a bar over there) but she came home before i got chance to do it and i've just not got around to doing it again, plus its a case of having the money to do it now, i think it costs about £70-80, and its the same here you have to pay the same amount for name change as getting a new one.
With you both having Irish passports I take it your both from Ireland (I know that sounds a bit of a daft question), whereabouts are you from ? I'm of Irish descent, if you don't mind me asking what are your surnames? Private message me if you want, I'm just being nosey as I'm really into researching my family tree x

Do not know when the wedding will be
nextmrstaylor@oliviahouston I've not come accross thoose surnames in our research before but me dad has been doing most of the research lately, we believe our ancestors came form Wexford (or is it County Wexford) and our family surname is Doran, though we do have the surnames of Brady and Fearns with in our family tree that come from Ireland too,.
In regards to having a wedding abroad it's only something that we're toying with at the moment, just trying to see how much it would cost etc, and thanks for the offer of help x

What about Jersey? Pretty good weather most of the time and cheap to get here from the UK. Registrar needs at least 3 months to sort out the legal stuff. I live here and married here in 2005.

luvbugangel is also thinking of a wedding abroad:
hey ppl; my wedding plans have changed yet again but this time we are putting a deposit down for a holiday but we don't no where to go and we r going to tie the wedding in with it save the hassle etc.
so far we have Cyprus, Cuba and the Dominican Republic; Mexico is out coz u have 2 have blood tests and i am petrified of needles.
please help
17. July at 19:43
lollyjane @luvbugangel a wedding abroad sounds lovely. Is it just blood tests you don't like or all injections as I think they usually reccommend tetanus and Hep A vaccinations for Cuba and the Dominican Republic. I might be wrong, but it might be worth checking out before setting your heart on somewhere xx
17. July at 19:51
luvbugangel @lollyjane i wud b ok here in uk with my own gp and needles etc its the thought of catching something when in mexico x
17. July at 19:58
missengaged I went to the Dominican 5 years ago and didn't have to have any injections but the lovely @debbieandjaysbigday has just been there for her honeymoon and had to have them hun!! Dominican is beautiful, very relaxing and picturesque, perfect for a wedding!! Cuba is also stunning! Have fun deciding!x
17. July at 20:32
cicmatag @luvbugangel take into account who you want to be there. Cyprus might be more affordable for your guests to get to, whereas the Caribbean might be out of some people's reach (not to mention the 8/9 hour flight...)
But at the end of the day it's your wedding, you can do whatever you want. It might be worth checking out each country's consulate's website to get some more information about vaccinations, required residency etc.
I'm petrified of needles too - when would you have to have the blood test? Is it on the day of the wedding or on arrival?
luvbugangel @cicmatag i'm not having anyone there hun just me and the h2b. blood tests are taken when u arrive and register the marriage so i been reading.
katiedarlin can you not take your own needles? i know a lot of first aid kits for travel to africa have hypodermic needles in them your practice nurse might even give you a few.....although it depends how they need to take the blood if they use the vzaacume vials it might be a specific type of needle you need
good luck wit hthe plans sound fab
