So last wkend I went shopping at have found the best dress ever. Tried it on and fell in love. As im a whimp I didnt put my deposit down there and then as I wanted to think about it and therefore asled the lady to write details and cost down.

When I got home I looked at the cost, the cost of dress its self and happy with, but then she has written £250 for alterations. I think thats REALLY expensive. Family and friends who got married this year and who are getting married next year havent had to pay that much for alterations.

So Ive been looking on the internet and now located the dress designer (as the lady in the shop wouldnt tell me) as Mori Lee.
Do you girls think I should ring round shops who sell Mori Lee dresses and see if they have the dress in? If they dont can they order it??? and ask for cheaper alterations?? I dont want to go back to the shop yet asking for cheaper alterations, just for them to say NO and then for me to have no choice but to pay it.
HELP xxx

My dress was a bit big, and alterations were exactly £80. £250 sounds scary O.o
Can you find s/o else to fix the dress?

Can you not get the dress and have it without them doing alterations and find a seamstress or somebody locally to do it? Failing that I'd look around if I were you. If you know what dress it is you could look on Ebay. When I got the bridesmaid dresses we tried them on in the shop they looked really nice but expensive, The woman gave me the codes!! I typed them in ebay and found the exact dress for £100 cheaper. Def dont pay £250 alterations they are taking the piss!! xx

My dress was Mori Lee and loads of shops stock them and would probably get your particular style in if u asked. Mine was altered for £50 and was perfect (again it only needed shortening but that then affected the detail) Hope you find a better shop soon. You should be able to buy the dress from that shop but use a different seamstress as well so shop around :D good luck! x

Personally I think you should stay well clear of that shop. First of all why would they not tell you who the designer of the dress is? This sounds very dodgy to me, it looks like she doesn't want to you to look elsewhere but buy the dress from her which I think is very unethical of her. Also, as the other girls said loads of places stock Mori Lee dresses so you should have no problem finding another local stockist. Or if you already know this dress is The One, you might be able to order it from Mori Lee directly (not sure this is possible but it's worth a look). And £250 for alterations??? Sounds like a shameless rip off to me. A good seamstress should be able to do it for £50-80. Shop around hun x

Go on the Mori Lee website and find the stockists near you. Then ring each shop and ask if they have the dress in. Then get the dress cost and alterations cost. Do this for each stockist - if they don't have the dress in they can order it in but then ask if there is a charge for this.

I had to do this when I fell in love with a dress but it was over budget...Grrr!! Its time consuming but worth it!

Definitely ring round other shops. Mori Lee is in a few shops in each area and I'm certain you could get it for cheaper. Everywhere is different at the end of the day but £250 for alterations is a lot. Having said that my bridesmaid dresses are costing me £50 just to have the hem taken up an inch! It does make you wonder just how much work goes into these things.

Ask around and see if you can get it cheaper. Good luck!

I would definitely have a ring round other shops. My dress was a sophia tolli and needed some adjustment. A wedding dress shop down the road from me did all the alterations for £40 and it was perfect.
