My budget for flowers is £300 pounds.
Is this enough? My stepmom seems to want David Austin roses.... I have said i dont want them as it will push the prices up.... u can have normal roses without it being David Austin.
Also Im not the flowery type person so i dont want the room filled full of flowers!!!
Whats your budget ??
Be glad of your views
Thanks

Whats a david austin rose n what makes it so special?if your not fussed either way just ask your step mum to pay anything over your budget.I think £300 is enough if you only want bridal party and buttonholes but not if you want centerpieces aswell.xx

Tell your Stepmum that if she wants them so much, she can pay for them!
They are pretty roses, but I still prefer just your average rose. David Austin roses don't look rose-like.
Mine is only about £150
My bouquet is costing me £30, my button holes are only £12 in total, and my poseys come upto around £30 too.
The rest is for table decorations and we're doing them ourselfs. xx

We've bought the tall vases and feathers at cost price from a wholesaler but have now brought in a florist to add the final touches...added to bouquet costs x 2 and 5 button holes, its still going to hit about £500.....but this is something we were happy to spend on, we're saving money on the cake.

This thread was started by dancing_girl and it's an interesting question .. I've moved it to this existing thread so please reply to her here!! Thanks emoticon

Dancing_girl asked:
Okay, I know flowers are expensive but I've been to see three florists and they're all quoting between £900 - £1000 for my flowers. I'm not having any flowers which are out of season so would be costing more. I'm having a hand tied bouquet, so is my adult bridesmaid, two smaller posies for my little bridesmaids, a few buttonholes for the families, eight centre arrangements, top table arrangement for the reception and two pedestal arranagemnts for the church. I don't think that's too excessive is it? I'm in Dorset and I know the south coast can be more expensive than other parts of the country but I've been horrified byt the quotes. I love flowers and think they play a big part in the day but I can't afford this much. What do other people think?

hi dancing_girl, maybe you should ask for an itemised quote so you know how much your paying for each item, then you could either knock her down on each piece or just get the large centre pieces and ask round family and friends who might be a bit arty who can help with the other bits and go to the flower markets or something and make your own??

@ dancing_girl. I live in Weymouth and have found all the florists that are in the town centre are expensive. This is due to their overheads being so high. I have chosen a florist that is near my house and is out of the twon centre resulting in me saving loads. The florist does a church package that consists of an Altar display, 2 pedestal displays and 8 pew ends and bows for £200. Plus if i want to take them to the venue after she will come and move them for us. I want to use mine and my bridesmaids bouquets to decorate the top table at the reception. xx

I agree with @katie_reeve, find a florist which is out of town. Have a drive around a few villages until you see some real quality flowers outside a florist then bob in and ask them what they can do for you, explain your dilema and see if they can beat your original quote including delivery. Its a better option than cutting back on flowers. x

@katie_reeve - I was interested to hear how much you paid for your flowers. I popped into a few places and was quoted £200 for handtied bouquets for myself and my two bridesmaids. Wasn't sure if this was far too expensive or just usual, so thanks for that.

The total cost of my flowers now is 425 pounds! That includes flowers for me, bridemaid, 12 buttonholes, centrepieces, top table and 2nd top! I chose pale pink roses with babybreath and cut flowers like stocks sweetpeas etc.. really lovely.. it would cost even more if i had gone for david austin so it was mix and match really

Corsages are all the rage at the moment in the wedding magazines and usually quite reasonably priced!

I suggested corsages but my Mam didn't like the idea & put me off emoticon Maybe I will try and convince her though!

We're paying £350 for bridal bouquet, three hand-tied bouquets for the bridsmaids, 10 buttonholes, 6 table arrangements and 2 thank-you bouquets for our mums. Other than the centrepieces we're mostly having lilies and roses, and I think that pushed the price up a bit. We wanted a pedastal as well, but that was an extra £85! It's always worth getting an itemised quote, and then you can work out what's worth paying extra for and what you don't really need. I would say £1,000 is very steep for flowers unless you're having heaps everywhere!

I'm petrified now - I love flowers and really want roses for my big day but its a bit early to start looking. I'm horrified at how much they might cost.

I want a bridal hand tied bouquet, 4 small bridesmaid bouquets, 6 buttonholes, plus 4 table centres (same as the bridesmaid's bouquets as i'm reusing them for the reception as a money saving idea). and maybe one big arrangement for the top tables, or lots of single roses to put in lots of little vases on the tables - no idea how expensive this is going to be but more than £600 would put me way over budget emoticon

We are doing flowers on the cheap so to speak. I have really bad hay fever and don't want the chance to be sneezing and puffy eyed on the photographs so I am looking around for small fake flowers to do everything with, all the left over ones will go as button hole flowers and small bouquets for the 2 bridesmaids

My budget is £600 as I want only blue hydrangers, pale pink peonies, spray roses, freasias, and lavendar but I had a quote from a florist for £460 which included:

My bridal bouquet of pure peonies
3 bridesmaid wrist corsages
2 large displays on stands
4 foot top table display
5 button holes
5 centre pieces which are large fish bowels, with blue hydrangers and a mirror underneath. She will set up and clear up afterwards as well. Do you think this is a good price?

hand tied bridal bouquet of freesias and tulips
3 hand tied bridesmaids bouquets of the same flowers and one for the flowergirl
8 buttonholes of double tulips and some greenery
2 mothers' corsages
10 centrepieces of goldfish bowls with tulips and steelgrass wound round the inside

sigh... help... xx

clairemugford wowo thats a lot of money i thought my quote was a lot for 750.00 but blimey oh riley xx
13. Apr at 20:24

wilkin87 Thanks for your help lol xx
13. Apr at 20:25

hayleycooper1985 Its alot but I dont know... I think ours is £650 but the original martini glasses I wanted were £250 each (needed 6) so I think the quote really depends on how much you get. maybe shop around?
13. Apr at 20:27

clairemugford sorry
are your roses expensive roses? as i have been 2 three florists before even making my decisions
the first one quoted me 740.00 but it included now flowers in the church so i went to another and they quoted me 760.00 with church flowers so i went to another one my friend knows and she quoted me 650.00 with church flowers and extra bits i hadnt even thought of originally.
when i went to the third florist she asked if i had been given a quote before and i said yes 750.00 ish and she said ok, what flowers are you wanting? i told her i wanted gerberas and she said 'ok' and looked at me confused. after we went through all the flowers i wanted she looked at me and said ' and all this came to 750.00?' i was so worried as i thought she was going to be even more expensive and then she gave me her quote of 650.00 and i nearly fell off the chair!!
Have you been to any other florists? it may help to get some other quotes if possible? and if it is still too expensive then it may be eliminating the things that are not necessities?
i dont know if it is more expensive as you have the lights as well?? do u have some pictures of the sort of flowers you would like?
13. Apr at 20:31

clairemugford @hayleycooper1985 250.00 each for a martini glass? crikey thats really expensive!! wow i never realised flowers could be so expensive!!
13. Apr at 20:32

shell2011 if you dont have a budget then consider it, even b4 my quote I already knew I would make my own centrpieces and have my bm flowers from ebay or online somewhere 2 save money, it is a lot of money for some flowers but i guess it depends how important the flowers r 2 u in your wedding, im not a flower person hence my reluctance 2 spend loads on them, i wud much prefer to get creative with candels and fairylights.x
13. Apr at 20:33

wilkin87 Thanks. I think I will respond to the lady and see if we can reduce costs. Taking off the Yellow Rose Pomander Trees would save £280.
13. Apr at 20:33

tassarella wow!! Ours are £240 for all the church flowers (pew ends using avalanche roses and 2 pedestals using calla lillies, oriental lillies and avalanche roses) and reception flowers (jugs containing various flowers including roses, lisianthus, etc). Bridal bouquets cost from £30...mine is likely to be around £55 for what I want. This was the best value place I found. One place quoted me £350 to RENT the silk flowers i wanted just for the church.
13. Apr at 20:53

clairemugford all people quote different things but it is entirely up to you
it depends on how important they are for u
i have spent a lot on my wedding ring where as some people wouldnt spend that much so all depends on u xx
13. Apr at 21:11

essex_bride Our Wedding Flowers have come in at £1000. That is for:

- 1 Large Shower Bouquet 12" wide by 26" in drop (Avante Garde Roses, various other blooms and vintage foliage) - £100
- 4 Adult Hand tied poses (Avante Garde Roses, various other blooms and vintage foliage) - £200
- 2 Children's Hand tied poses (Avante Garde Roses, various other blooms and vintage folliage) - £50
-1 Groom Button Hole ( Double Avant garde roses with vintage foliage) £5
- 6 Button Holes ( Single Ivory rose with vintage foliage ) £25
- 4 Corsages £30
- 9 x Mirror Gold fish bowls with country / vintage foliage, avante garde roses £400
- long, low table arrangement for signing resister and then to be used on top table (country / vintage foliage, avante garde roses) £70
- 2 x Thank You Bouquets for Mums £70
- Flowers for the top of the wedding cake and to fill in-between four tiers £50

We did originally have another type of rose but it would have cost us a further £500 - £600 to have those throughout our wedding, I think that the flowers that you choose and the time of year that you get married can very much affect the cost of your wedding flowers

Our price also included delivery which is approx 40 miles away for her, set up, the putting the flowers onto the cake for us and then she will collect all of the glass gold fish bowls the next day
13. Apr at 21:13

ruthlydia @wilkin87 I don't think it is a ridiculous quote but I recommend trying to barter a bit if you can. I had £1000 in my budget for flowers and the quote came in at around £1300 so I went back to the florist and spoke about the price and he took the price down to less than £1000 in the end so I was happy and pleased I asked rather than accepting the first quote. Good luck. x
13. Apr at 21:36

mary27 oh my god, i will not be paying near that, i got fake flowers for my BM flowers, which would have been £70 for real ones but i go them for £17 and they look real and my pew ends are £2 each. It seems an awful lot of money for something that you cant keep forever x
13. Apr at 21:39

wilkin87 @clairemugford Please don't say sorry I was only joking.

@essex_bride I think you are right, it does depend on the type of flower too. Perhaps David Austin Roses should just be for me?

@ruthlydia- I have just emailed the flower lady to say £800 is my max budget and will see what she suggests. I am hoping, as we start to buy other things, that they will somehow magically come in under budget so that I can have all the flowers. We shall see...

I think, because we are paying for everything towards the wedding, we didn't realise how much it would cost us. We really want it to be a nice day, as we are working really hard to fund it, but also have a mortgage to pay and everyday living costs like everyone else. I think I may have to start playing the lottery again...

Thanks for your help ladies. I will let you know what flower lady says. I really like her though, she seems genuine. xx
13. Apr at 21:53

angelil ouch!!! €186 for us: 1 bride's bouquet, 2 bridesmaids' bouquets, 5 buttonholes.
13. Apr at 22:06

essex_bride @wilkin87 I think that because David Austin roses are a specialist rose that you may be able to cut your costs if you just used them for your own bouquet and maybe the grooms button hole? then go for a cheaper style of rose for the Bridesmaids / button holes / corsages and table centre pieces. You can get so many different styles of roses so Im sure you will be able to find another rose that is similar style and colour to the David Austin roses your using. Your florist should be able to recommend what's out there and going this route may then help reduce your costs xx
13. Apr at 22:41

wilkin87 @essex_bride Thanks for the sound advice. You certainly make good sense. xxx
13. Apr at 22:45

essex_bride @wilkin87 Too much wedding planning lol x
13. Apr at 22:50

wilkin87 @essex_bride haha!! oOo.....The florist has responded....

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your reply, so quickly! The quote was treading quite a thin line due to the flowers included but I must say that you have such similar taste to me that I so desperately want to create the perfect vintage/chic floral theme for you.

Leave it with me 'till tomorrow and I will see what I can come up with. I'll contact you tomorrow evening with some options.

Take care, Julie

I think she sounds really genuine and will do her best to accommodate me. Have to wait until tomorrow night now to see what her magic green fingers can create....
... tune in the same time tomorrow for the next episode...
13. Apr at 22:59

jen150912 @wilkin87 ooft! Your florist does sound like she wants to do the best she can for you to fit in with your theme, so fingers crossed that she can come up trumps! It would be a shame to have to cut something out of your decoration. Good luck! xx
13. Apr at 23:10

essex_bride @wilkin87 There are plenty of vintage style roses out there and foliage can help bulk out a bouquet or centre piece, our florist suggested herbs like rosemary / eucalyptus and mint which are cheap to use, smell great and they can work in well with a vintage/ chic floral scheme. its what we are doing and because we have a summer wedding it will keep the bugs away lol

so I am sure that she will be able to help you out, she sounds genuine in the way that she is offering to help you. Lets hope she can meet what you are after xx
13. Apr at 23:12

wilkin87 Thanks ladies, I am sure she will come up with something- prob my own fault for not telling her my budget in the first place: *mutters..daft cow*... xx
13. Apr at 23:18

aisling @wilkin87 I have to agree to with the girls, the quote is HUGE!
As @essex_bride said, substitute the David Austin roses for cheaper ones in everything except yours and h2b, you guys should stand out, be special and different!
The florist seems nice but you have to remeber she's in business so will try to help you but has to think of her profits so do what you can to cut down costs as well - cut out what is not needed such as the trees. Does the arch need to have roses in, how about just some nice foliage?
Do the flowergirls need pomanders? How old are they? I'm having 2 fgs, 4 year olds, I'm getting them little heat shaped wire baskets, filling them with rose petals and decorating the handles with ribbons. I figured these would be easier for them to hold and they can keep them afterwards.
Fingers crossed for the updated quote!

duffy86s @wilkin87 gee that sounds an awful lot, must be your roses that are pushing up the pricing. I got 3 quotes and they ranged from £550 to £800. for exactly the same amount of flowers. ive got 1x bridal, 5x bridesmaids, 1x flowergirl, 11x main men button holes, 5x women corsarges, 72 button guest holes, top table 2ft long and low, 11 tables vase arrangements, 4/5 thankyou boquets. all roses and dark calla lillies. So id say get at least another quote. my 3 quotes were florists all within 3 miles from eachother. the dearest was a freelance florist.

mrsegan2b I was originally going for DA roses but my florist recommended others which instead of £4.50 a stem are more like £2 a stem. As all of my flowers are roses it halved the cost. Down with DA, get cheaper alternatives for exactly the same look! xx

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
  Hi Everyone,

I've just received my first quote from a florist for £280 for my bouquet with roses with diamontes in, purple lisianthius, purple tulips and bear grass, 4 bridesmaids with similar but all white, 1 double headed buttonhole for the groom, 3 ushers, two dads and a page boy. I've got nothing to compare it to so i wondered how much you are all paying for yours?

xx
18. Nov 2010 at 19:05

glass_doll9 I think that's pretty fair. We've budgeted between £200 and £400 for flowers and I think for the amount your having, particularly the bouquets, £280 is pretty good. I'd still get a couple more quotes though, even if it's just some piece of mind or to take a look at some other florists work.
18. Nov 2010 at 19:17

mrshstobe yea that sounds like a good quote, i've been quoted £260 for 2 adult wire bouquest and one junior one, flower girls wire shoes, 2 mums wire button holes, 6 mens and 2 pageboys and was delighted with the price!!! i'm having real flowers plus wire for my bouquet and some arrangements for the church so just waiting for a price on these!!! defo price around too though! xx
18. Nov 2010 at 19:35

ourbigday I am paying £490 for my tear drop bouquet, 4 bridesmaids, 4 womens corsages, 8 mens button holes. A waterfall top table arrangement and eight floral arrangement for the tables. Flowers are lisianthius, roses, bear grass, greenery, orchids, gerberas, freesias, calla lillies and diamantes.

To make it easier for you to compare with yours @meeeshel - my bouquet was £70, 2 adult bridesmaids were £45 each and £30 each for the two children, corsages were £8.50 - this includes ribbon to co-ordinate with their outfits, ushers and grandad's button holes are £3, groom, my dad and best man's are £5. This comes to £234 in total - hope this helps! x
18. Nov 2010 at 19:38

meeeshel @ourbigday cool that's great, thanks! My bouquet is £70, bridesmaids are £37 and junior bridesmaid is £25, buttonholes £7 for groom £6 for everyone else. She's also said she'll help with ideas for my table arrangements with my silk flowers!

@lollyjane also had a query regarding flower costs and what is a good price:
lollyjane Hiya ladies - I hope you don't think I'm being rude, but I'm trying to get a feel about what a good price is for flowers. I have had a couple of quotes and the best one so far is:
Bridal Bouquet - approx 55 pounds
x3 Bridesmaid Bouquets - approx 40 pounds each
Button holes - 2 pound for carnations, 3 pound for roses (will need 6)
Corsages - 8.50 for a small, 10 for large (need 2 for our Mums)
Small table arrangements in glass cubes - 20 pounds each (will probably need 20ish)
x2 larger flower arrangements in glass cubes - 25 pounds each (2 for top table)
This gives us an approx cost of around 700 punds all in (including the glassware and delivery and set up.)
We are also thinking about having some pairs of bay trees to line the aisle during the ceremony and the scattered around the reception room afterwards. Not sure how many of these we will need as depends on the length of the aisle, but I have found them on M&S for 55 pounds for a pair. What does everyone think of the prices above - do they sound reasonable? xxx

missmaxine i cant really help, mine are all included in the price but i would shop around, see if they would be cheaper with silk flowers, you never know you may find a good bargin
Yesterday at 12:11

rainbowflorist For fresh flowers, that sounds a reasonably good quote for the items you mention. You might like to check with your florist if she can get the bay trees any cheaper than M & S especially if you decide you would like a few.

@lollyjane there was also http://www.finalstitch.co.uk/forum/thread/photography-flowers/ that had some other ideas on flower costs too- seems it can really range depending on type flower and location emoticon

I got my quote the other day from my local florist as £200 for:

brides posy bouquet of pink and green orchids and white hydrangeas
3 white hydrangea bridesmaid posies
orchid grooms buttonhole
4xwhite hydrangea buttonholes
hydrangea and orchid cake topper

I was wondering though if I could haggle the bridesmaid bouquets down from £30 each to £25 as I've heard hydrangeas are very readily available and wilt more quickly than some other flowers - is it worth a try?

@mrsjohnson2b had a similar question about flower prices:
mrsjohnson2b Anyone know how much they roughly spent on flowers? Plus how much of that went on bouquets and how much on reception etc? I want to go to my florist and ask what they can do for X amount, rather than how much would it be to do this....but don't really know what budget I should set myself and what is a good price.
31. Aug at 15:23

mshella i have ordered artificial flowers (cos I get bad hay fever) the bouquet for me cost £41 off silk florist on internet. the button holes are foam flowers from JTF and were £1.50 each and my BM and sis have little bouquet each in same colours from JTF that were £1.75 each
31. Aug at 15:34

debbie33 all my flowers are foam roses and for a bridal bouquet, 2 medium posies, 3 small posies, approx 25 button holes, two table displays i was quoted £150. there are some fab sites on both ebay and facebook that give good deals, the one ive chosen is happy with monthly payments to help with costs x
31. Aug at 16:09

emjleo85 @debbie33 Can i ask who you used please? x
31. Aug at 16:13

debbie33 i am using a lady from facebook, her page is called kylies treasures. heres a link xx http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/kylies.handmade.treasures
31. Aug at 16:20

emjleo85 @debbie33 Thankyou ive been looking for foam flowers and yet to find a good deal x
31. Aug at 16:22

accidentallyme @mrsjohnson2b I've spent £500. £85 for my bouquet, £30 for adult BM, £65 for child BM (went for silks or I'd have nothing left!), £65 each for martini glasses for the ceremony and reception, £30 for button holes, £20 for small posies for staircase of hotel and £35 for 2 coursages for mums.
31. Aug at 16:29

debbie33 @emjleo85 no problem, kylie is lovely, im getting lots of accessories from her too x
31. Aug at 16:47

emjleo85 @debbie33 Just had a quick look cant believe she sells button holes for 50p x
31. Aug at 16:49

debbie33 @emjleo85 i know she is amazingly cheap but everything is fab quality. i recently brought jewellery from her and it was just what i wanted for my nieces birthday. it was all auction items and i got 5 bracelets and a necklace for 5.75! she is really helpful with the flowers too, she doesnt rush you and as theyre foam they last, so ordering early wouldnt be a problem x
31. Aug at 16:52

jen_kristin I'm probs going to spend about £600 with my Bouquet costing £180. My bridesmaids are going to be £50 each because theres a style I really want them to have. You usually only spend about £30 on them though.
Here's a price list from my local florist

Bride Bouquet: £77
Bridesmaid Bouquet: £46
Gents Rose Buttonhole: £3.50
Corsage: £8.45
Oval top table decoration: £26
Table Posy: £18.50
Pedestal arrangements: £46

Hope this helps, of course its only one price list from one florist but it gives you a rough idea x
31. Aug at 17:34

katy3108 @debbie33 I've just looked at her facebook her flowers are amazing, was gonna get real ones but these look really nice. Decisions, decision x

31. Aug at 18:14

tinks1985 i'm getting a friend of my mom's to do my flowers (after visiting almost every florist in Birmingham and not finding anyone willing to give me exactly what i wanted). She's charging me between £30-50 for my bouquet, 1/2 the cost of mine for the bridesmaids bouquets (so between £15-£25 per bridesmaid) and about £1.50-£2.00 per buttonhole. All fresh flowers as well so i think i'm getting a fairly good deal really. I'm not having flowers for my reception centrepieces so that will help to keep the costs down
31. Aug at 18:32

debbie33 @katy3108 they are amazing flowers, and so real looking. I didnt want real ones as they die so quickly and i would like the bridesmaids and myself to keep them. the table decs are going to my h2b's mums grave and my nans so wanted something that would last x
31. Aug at 19:42

loves_to_dance @baldwin2bconnolly That sounds like a good deal. I will be after something similar, so hoping to get quoted a similar amount to yours. I'm meeting my florist in a couple of weeks' time to go through ideas and then get a quote - fingers crossed!
31. Aug at 22:03

joski28 @debbie33 Would just like to say thanks for the link to Kylies treasures. Her flowers are just what I've been looking for and really cheap to. Can't wait to get home and order them xx
