Just thought I would ask you guys this, as we're trying to keep it a secret as possible, but my Mum, one of the few that knows, is trying to talk me out of this idea... but I love it, and people who aren't going to wedding but know me think it is very me... maybe I have just answered my own question.
Anyway... We have hired a tipi for our wedding and we wanted like a garden party/picnic theme, so my idea was to have the main course (not sure if I'm having a starter yet) as picnic food in a big wicker basket that could be shared amongst the table, prompting people to talk, and the caterers would go around replenishing so they would never run out, this is my favourite kind of food. My mum however thinks we should have a proper hot meal (its summer and hopefully hot so I'd actually prefer cold) I think mainly she's worried what other people will think, I know I should have what I want but I can't bear people slagging off my idea.
The other problem is our tipi comes with benches (we opted for them as cheaper than tables and chairs) and it adds to the whole 'picnic' vibe, when we hired it we reserved some reindeer skins to be softer on the bum but I don't know if they'll go as I'm planning on gingham table runners... Do I keep or get rid? They were quite expensive to hire (can cancel) Will people moan that their bums hurt?
Could I maybe have a box of seat cushions available for those who object? But where do I get 100 seat cushions from....? So confused....
I would love some help here as I'm really starting to doubt all of my choices!!

emmax@missglovesteas i think it sounds like a lovely idea!! i thin its perfect especially if its what u want! U can prob get seat cushions of ebay or a garden centre website or something, i doubt it is a massive issue! If it is what u want then i think u should go for it! x

Love this idea, tho think you might be right about the hides not matching with your theme. Why not see if you can do a similar idea with a material that will match. That way you save on buying individual cushions and any kids using them for pillow fights later (I think of these things coz we've had to seat some cousins away from each other to avoid food fights at ours... am hoping to distract them with bubbles)?
Your mums probably just anxious coz its a new idea she's probably not seen before. Hopefully she'll warm to the idea when it starts coming together (if not she'll have to put up or shut up, coz its your day and you should have what you want)

jen150912@missglovesteas It sounds amazing... I LOVE the idea of a picnic basket, if it's what you want, then go for it! Will save on your centrepieces! Your mum will be pushing for the 'traditional' sit-down dinner, but I'm guessing that you're not a 'traditional' sort of girl...! Go with what you want hun. As for the cushions... ask your guests to bring one along...? WIll save you on the reindeer skins...! Or charity shops (wash them first!) or find a local college with a textyles dept who could make some for you for a small fee? xx

This sounds fantastic- very unique. Go with your gut instinct because I think if you listen to your mum and have something more traditional you will regret not having it your way!! It will definitely be a talking point and people will remember it for being different!
Lots of different coloured gingham seat cushions will look better than reindeer skin and also be more comfy (just my opinion) if you can get hold of enough ofd them.

Thank you ladies as always for such wonderful advice and calming words!
@jen150912 Haha, ironically I'm a textiles teacher, I already have my kids making pom-poms at lunch just for the love of it, and chocolate rewards! But I was thinking Charity Shops too, Not everyone will be bothered I would imagine, and I'm sure some people will have some I can borrow, but that way they can take on their way in?
@mrslightfoot Brilliant thinking, I hadn't thought of that, but the hides are very thick and comfy so just thinking of something I could use instead that has the same cushioning, I have put some pretty good kiddie bags together and we only have a few so hopefully I will distract them enough!
@emmax@gina130284 Thanks, yes I will look around, surely they can't be that expensive, will try Dunelm too, when theres a will eh? I will work this out!

Erm can I come, I love picnics. But in regards to sore bums, if it were me I'd be off measuring the benches, got me self down the market for some foam. The guys will cut it to size for you and it's dead cheap. Then across the market for a load of fabrics, you'll find gingham or what ever colours you fancy and any one who owns a sewing machine can run you up covers in an hour.

missglovesteas@munchkin79 I am so dense! Of course! I have all the measurements already, and I have a sewing machine... You my love, are a genius! Off to the market with me then! Might just keep them white though/cream so's not to distract from tables, 28 seat cushions coming up! Oh and thank you for making me feel good about it, I had battled with my Mum for a year over this issue, but now it's getting real I think I'm starting to panic! x

It sounds amazing! Definitely do it! No one will have seen a wedding like it and it will give everyone something to talk about on the day. Good luck! x
