Girls I need some honest advice and want to know what unbiased people think!! emoticon I currently have quite short hair but am unsure as to whether I should grow it for our BIG DAY!? My H2B says he likes it short as its different and quite funky but after browsing through some old pics I'm unsure :(
I just want to look feminine on our spesh day and am unsure whether others especially family etc.....will think I should have made more of an effort to look girly with my hair?? Please let me know what your thoughts are!! emoticon xxx

Hi .. take a look at these replies already on a similar thread http://www.finalstitch.co.uk/forum/thread/hair-up-or-down/ and there's some pics there of shorter styles too! Someone mentioned hair extensions maybe an option as I can see your wedding's only in a year's time! Personally I've never done this nor can imagine whether it's a good idea to change your image totally (don't want your HTB to run away as he doesn't recognise you) .. what do other brides think!?!?

I love my hair short as I am not very girly and it is easier to manage more than the way it looks. But I am having hair extensions on my big day as I am going to change my hair from it's natural dark brown to black as it fits with our Victorian theme more as well as it being in curls instead of straight.

I personally wouldn't be going with the hair extensions if it didn't make me feel comfortable. You can also do great styles with short hair and it is all about what makes you happy and what you feel comfortable with as well as your HTB. What other people think doesn't matter this day is about you guys and not them. Most hair dressers will give you a free trial where they will do your hair for you so if you have a hairdresser who you have known for years it may be worth booking yourself in for them to show you how some short styles would look on you. Take pics of each and stick the pics on a wall somewhere, you may get bored of the styles easily and your HTB may decide he doesn't like them as much as he thought he would but you still have plenty of time to decide so don't rush the decision and see what comes naturally to you.

I have grown my hair for my wedding but only started growing it at the start of the year! wedding in 2 wks!! Im also using hair extensions because my hair is quite fine and I want to wear it up! My htb was unsure of hair extensions but loved the style I got for my hair trial. I just wanted something different and used to have long hair when I was younger and loved wearing it up. If your happy with your short hair I would leave it short you can dress it up with accessories if you wanted to. Its best to be comfortable on your day and not worry about what other people think (i,m getting told this at mo from htb). I loved my old shorter hairstyle but had it for years and needed a change so this was a good opportunity.

I really think you should choose a style that suits you and you feel confident in. Why not try growing it out you can always cut it if you dont like it. Personally I'm kinda lazy so if i already had my dress I'd style my short hair how i'd want it on my wedding and take a pic. I'd then go to hairdressers, get temporary extensions put in and have my "long" hair styled for my wedding. take pic and compare the two. If you prefer the long style then grow it and if not then no need to waste time growing it!!!!

Hi girls, I have shoulder length hair that i am currently growing out for my wedding next year. After asking my family and hairdresser what i should do, they all said "well, you can start growing it out and if you don't like it the week before the wedding have it cut to your normal length so you feel comfortable". The best advice i've had so far!!! emoticon

I can't stand my hair long, it drives me mad in everyday life lol.
For my big day I am having hair extentions, then having them curled and up.
The longest i'm letting mine grow in shoulder length and thats long for me as its been short/chin length for the last 9 years in various styles.

@mrscoe2b I think I'm just going to keep it short now and it will look lovely with my tiara! I have thought long and hard about it and feel if I grew it and then chopped it off again after the big day the wedding pics wouldn't be the real me!! Also I have very crazy hair lol!! Any sign of mist/drizzle, wind or humidity and it will frizz and go curly and H2B will hate it and so will I :(

@debbieandjaysbigday if you have frizzy hair, have you heard of the new brazilian blow dry? not as dodgy as it sounds! emoticon basically they apply keratin to your hair, then straighten it 10 times with 235 degree straighteners and your hair stays straight, frizz-free and super soft and shiny for up to 3 months!! It's quite expensive but if you sign up to emails on http://www.groupon.co.uk/in/.1aK18w deals come up on there every now and then for about £50 instead of £200. alternatively you can buy the stuff on ebay and do it yourself; i did my sisters for her with ebay stuff but went to a hairdresser for mine and hers is lasting an awful lot longer than mine!

I have a bob hairstyle, and as you can see from the photo I'm planning on having it curled for the big day, so I'm planning on growing it just a couple of inches tomake the curls a bit better. No longer than shoulder lenght though as I want to look like me and don't want to have to go to the hairdressers before we go on honeymoon.

You have to feel comfortable on your day not worry about what other people might or might not think.

I think the shorter style suits you more, it frames your face better!
My sister had a similar style for her wedding and looked great - have a hair trial and play about with some accessories.

@aisling Awww thanks for your nice words! I am knocking on a bit now too and don't want to look too young lol!!! People always thought I was alot younger when my hair was longer too emoticon Its just so difficult when you want your day to be pefect emoticon I am only having a tiara, not having a veil (if keeping hair short) want to go for the simplistic look as my dress is quite big!! emoticon

@meeeshel Thanks for the advice! I still am unsure.....H2B don't have this prob as he has no hair lol and he's not a girl wanting to look pefect hence he cannot understand why I'm fussing lol!! Will probably end up leaving it short as times ticking on now......only just over 8 months to go!!! Eeeeekk!! emoticon

@debbieandjaysbigday It suits you short and it will look great with a tiara! also if you usually wear it shorter i think you should look like a glam version of your everyday self, you don't want to look too different i don't think! also with shorter hair there's less to go wrong! I'm wondering how on earth someone is going to get my hair curly and make it last all day as its so heavy and long lol plus if its windy its gonna be a nightmare! I'm sure you'll look great whichever choice you go for emoticon

I would definately say grow it, as you could always get it cut shorter if you wanted too. But if you had it shorter now it would be more difficult, and cost more, to add length.

Thanks to all of you and @mrscoe2b for the advice! You are the hairdresser @mrscoe2b afterall so if anyone knows you should lol eh!? I think I am decided now and will stay short but as you say perhaps change the style ever so slightly so the back is a little fuller and not so drastically short, I could then have it more flicky than spikey at the back emoticon

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
I loved my short hair, it was so managable. It was just above my ears but I looked at my dress and decided it just didn't look right and grew it to just above shoulder length before the wedding and it still looked great it's not very long but looked a lot better then my super-short hair. My husband loved my super short hair but has decided he likes this more as he can run his fingers through it. Maybe your H2B will feel the same. It depends on if you feel comfortable or not with the short hair style you have. Hope that helps

2. Oct 2010 at 13:44

diamondbetty Not necessarily, only if you want to. I found a couple of nice pictures of short haired brides:
2. Oct 2010 at 15:02

moussepig i think i may go for something like the one on the right...its about the same length...I cant wear a veil as I look stupid!!lol....thanks!xx
2. Oct 2010 at 15:48

diamondbetty How about a bird cage veil? Otherwise an alice band or a fascinator?

http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=birdcage%20veil&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-...

There are some now veily veils in my photoblog
2. Oct 2010 at 15:54

willnotbite lol I wanted to grow mine as it was short (shorter than that pic <<<) it was shaved on one side of my head! and now its nearly all one length! its grown so quick! in just under a year :D and still have bout 2 n half years before i decied on the style i mean it is up 2 you! what do you feel comfy with? do you like your hair as it is now? or would you love to have it long for the day? or if not... buy a very good wig! that was going to be my first option :D
2. Oct 2010 at 16:13

quoth_the_raven Have you tried looking through those hairstyle magazines WHSmiths always seem to sell millions of? They usually have fairly extensive sections for each different category of hairlength. I wouldn't recommend growing it, though, unless you specifically want it long for your wedding or have a long-haired style in mind. You don't want to end up not feeling like yourself on the day, or looking over the photos in years to come and regretting the choice.
2. Oct 2010 at 18:17

ruthee I currently have short hair and asked h2b if he would like me to grow it again for our wedding but he says he loves me as I am and he thinks I look gorgeous with short hair and he knows I love it and he wants me to feel confident in my appearance so I am keeping mine short. I am looking at fascinators with birdcage veils and some just simple circles of flowers in a ring round my head. Whatever you do you must feel comfortable and confident xx
3. Oct 2010 at 21:07

annie_t m hair is shoulder length and im growing it so i can do the hair style i want .. i know it wont grow that much but it wil grow enough (i hope lol)

there are plenty of hairstyles out there for short hair hun
google short wedding hair styles or similar wording and click images x
