  • Do not know when the wedding will be
@leighleigh I read that these were some traditional catholic hymns:
Ave Maria
All Hailed Adored Trinity
All That I Am
God Father Praise and Glory
God is Love
Holy, Holy, Holy
One Bread, One Body
Only a Shadow
I Have Loved You
Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
Like a Seal on Your Heart
Love Divine, All Love Excelling
Love is the Sunlight
Lord of the dance
Set Me Like a Seal
Sing a New Song
Wherever You Go
Taste and See
The Gift of Love
But a good bet would be to speak with vicar and check through their hymn book to see the words and music for the songs emoticon

  • Do not know when the wedding will be
@leighleigh is 'bind us together' a suitable one, this one always reminds me of my sister singing it at my communion, and singing 'bang us together lord' she was only 4 at the time, lol xx

'One more step along the world I go' is a nice one about travelling together, but often sung in primary schools. Another one is 'I watch the sunrise' a bit more solemn, but gorgeous words:
I watch the sunrise lighting the sky,
Casting its shadows near.
And on this morning bright though it be,
I feel those shadows near me.

But you are always close to me
Following all my ways.
May I be always close to you
Following all your ways, Lord.

I watch the sunlight shine through the clouds,
Warming the earth below.
And at the mid-day, life seems to say:
I feel your brightness near me.
For you are always . . .

I watch the sunset fading away,
Lighting the clouds with sleep.
And as the evening closes its eyes,
I feel your presence near me.
For you are always . . .

I watch the moonlight guarding the night,
Waiting till morning comes.
The air is silent, earth is at rest
Only your peace is near me.
Yes, you are always...

We're having a Church of England wedding with 4 hymns, which we have chosen because we like them, the words are appropriate and people know them as we want people to sing!

We're having Be thou my Vision, The Lord's my Shepherd, O Lord My God, When I in Awesome Wonder ( aka How great thou are). We haven't decided on the 4th hymn yet, but it will follow that theme. Have a look through the hymn book, see which ones you know (and therefore your guests may know) and pick the ones you like.

We're putting the music in the order of service as lots of our friends/family are musical, so even if they haven't sung the hymn before they can join in - but it's only worth it if you know people are musical...

We have just been choosing and so far we love "here I am, lord" - H2B chose and it's beautiful
We are stuck between "we pledge to one another" ( to the tune of "I vow to thee my country" - love it but not sure if it's a bit patriotic)
And "Lord of all hopefulness" -was on the page of a bookmark in the priests hymn book from Ben's mums funeral so like a bit of a sign.
Cand decide between the last two tho?

25.Strength will rise

There were 2 more but I cant remember which not all of them are traditional but they are all ones i love. we have gone with; I will worship (htb's fave) In Christ alone (my fave) and to God be the glory because it is a classic that is easy to sing and a lot of people know as well as being quite uplifting.

MP = mission praise & h&s = hymns and psalms but not all editions number them the same which is not very helpful!!

We had Give me Joy to start with, then at the end we had Shine Jesus Shine. We also had As I kneel before You at the offertory and we had as well Tell Out My Soul during Holy Communion, but then nobody knew that one so it was only me singing.....! The organist also played Sheep may Safely Graze when we were signing the register - I've always like that piece of music and the reference to safely grazing has a religious note to it what with the Good Shepherd etc. Hubby wanted hymns that people knew so that they would sing along to, basically you will have pretty much free rein on what you have. Your priest will help you put the hymns in a good order for the Mass as well. xx
