i just wondered how soon before the wedding people were sending invites out and how soon they were expecting r.s.v.ps back. MIL from HELL has stuck her nose in yet again and is telling me that i should send them out no sooner than 2 months before. i feel this is 2 late because untill i know how many people can come to the daytime i dont know how many people i can invite for the evening because we have a strict number rule! i have 12 weeks untill my wedding and i want them all out now so i can get all r.s.v.ps by end june for a 20th august wedding do you think this is unreasonable considering MIL failed to post save the date cards to her family when she said she would and only just bothered to tell us no one has had one because she had never heard of it before and doesnt understand what its for!

essex_bride@candh We are getting married the 23rd July so little under 8weeks time now. we sent out our Invites at the beginning of March with an RSVP return by date of April 30th, this gave all our guests a 8week period in which to respond then gave us a couple of weeks to chase those who did not respond (there were quiet a few) as our venue required numbers and menu choices at our first planning meeting which we had in mid May.
If you find that your needing to provide numbers or menus to your venue by a specific date or like you say the amount of guests attending the day will affect the amount of evening guests you can invite then I think you should get them out sooner rather than later, especially if your not going to be able to send out the evening invitations until you have had responses from all your day guests. Hope this helps xx

essex_bride@stbmrscooper I will say If you are going to have guests/family members who will require accommodation then gather a list of hotels/B&Bs that are close to your venue and include them within your invitations or send as an email, it will then give your guests the option to book the accommodation themselves so that you dont find yourself doing it., believe me you will have enough to do x

shell2011@essex_bride i didn't realise u were a wedding twin @candh I would send them whenever u think it is best, your wedding is during holiday season so as i have found some people have already booked holidays but others who were planning 2 book soon then knew what date 2 avoid if they wanted 2 come 2 our wedding, i sent mine 3 months b4 and still thought this was 2 late, it does also depend when u need 2 give final numbers by, but if your waiting for final daytime numbers b4 u invite evening guests i would do it asap.x

jodie@shell2011@essex_bride I'm also a 23rd ormolu wedding twin! Can't wait, not long now ladies! Hope your plans are all going well
@candh I sent my invites out before Christmas asking for the rsvp's back by end of january. I know it's early but like you I wanted to know numbers therefore we could know how much money we had to save as it's per head. I think you should just send them out when you want to. Its so exciting when you start getting rsvp's back. xx

lottystar@essex_bride Me too! 23rd July will be a busy day!
We sent out our invites end of March and RSVP deadline in 31st May, that way we still have time to invite others if people are unable to make it.
@candh Do what you want though, it's your wedding NOT your MIL! !

I think that these days lots of people send out invites up to three months before the wedding, especially if you haven't done 'save the dates', just because people have much busier schedules these days. I sent mine out seven weeks before, but that's more to do with being disorganised than anything else! I would just send them out when you feel you need to. I say ignore the MIL, and do what you think is right :D xx

essex_bride@stbmrscooper Thats ok hun, it just means its easier for you and your not the one landed with finding them all accommodation then trying to sort out deposits and payments. They can simply call the hotel and do it themself lol x

tassarella@candh my wedding is the 19th August. I sent mine out at the end of February because I hadn't done save the dates and people often book holidays around that time. Ignore your MIL and send them out when you want to. Makes it easier to know numbers etc xx

I always thought the whole 'MIL from hell' thing was a fallacy but this site has proved me totally wrong. I'd completely ignore your MIL. We need to have the whole wedding paid for in full 12 weeks before the date, so if we were to send out invites 2 months before it would be absolutely no use. Like you say, you need to know numbers for the day before you invite evening guests. We're marrying in January and I'm getting invites out early June to RSVP for end of August. Gives them time to organise child care or time off work (if necessary as it's a Friday) and to book overnight stays, and also gives us time to chase up any people who haven't replied before giving final numbers to our venue middle of October.

aisling@candh 3 months before is the norm, I've sent out ours this week for 3rd Sept wedding with an rsvp date of 30 June.
Change of topic but I can't believe how far in advance some of you are being asked to pay for your days, especially @raewright. We've were asked to pay 50% of the expected food bill as a deposit when we booked, the rest is due the morning after the wedding, as our venue manager said, we don't know how much it will be until it's over.

We paid 25% deposit for venue and they need to be paid in full 12 weeks in advance. When we booked our honeymoon they had 10% deposit and need to be paid in full I think 8 weeks before we go. My venue don't really do a lot of wedding so maybe that has something to do with it.

I paid £5 per head deposit at our venue, then I pay the rest of what I'm expecting to 2 weeks before the wedding. If there are any extra's then this is due 2 weeks after the wedding.
