 H ladies,

At the wedding fayre i went to yesterday i spoke to at least 5 different people about wedding rings. My h2b really wants us to have Palladium wedding rings as he thinks it's really cool (something to do with the super hero 'Iron Man' and part of his suit being made from palladium). However one couple told me that i definitely would not be able to have a palladium wedding ring as my engagement ring is white gold, they made it sound as if it would be a really big issue if i didn't have something white gold. Then i spoke to another guy who said that it would be ok to have a palladium wedding ring but it might mean that i would have to get my engagement ring re-coated every so often. He also then came up with the idea of having my engagement ring re-made in palladium after the wedding using the original stone.

Has anyone else mixed the metals for their engagement/wedding rings and if so has it been an issue?

hey hun, palladium is lovely!! my h2b's wedding ring is palladium emoticon. i'm in the same boat as you as my engagement ring is 18crt white Gold. as far as i was told by my jeweller, you have to match like metals, ie 9crt white gold with 9crt white gold, 18crt white gold with 18crt white gold! etc as non matching metals eat into each other and could essencially ruin your rings. ;your h2b's idea of having your engagement ring reset is a good idea if you are both set on having the same type of rings. me and h2b are having two different rings to suit each of us emoticon. the best thing to is chat to your jeweller hun, they'll be able to help you emoticon Good luck xoxo

i was also told that wearing two metals next each other can result in the rings wearing out earlier....you will need to get your engagment ring recoated regualry anyway so you could consider geting the ring reset as an investment ...and get it made in to palladium which is more hard wearing

@tinks1985 there were some great tips on different ring metal mixes here too, some of which I never knew!

@tinks1985 I'm in the same boat as you, my engagement ring is 9ct white gold and I want a palladium band. The harder metal always wears down the softer one, and as the white gold is not naturally white, you would have to have it re-coated very often (every few months). For this reason I will have the diamond in my engagement ring re-set in palladium, it works out cheaper in the long run.
If you think about it, a re-coating costs about £30, if you have it done twice a year, over a 10 year period it would cost you £600 which would more than pay for a palladium ring, plus you wouldn't have to worry about fading and scratching, and having your ring sent away for a week at a time, twice a year.

@tinks1985 This is true - even in normal gold my engagement ring is 18ct and so I have to have 18ct wedding ring otherwise one would wear the other out xx

@mrshtob was also wondering about getting different metal wedding ring to engagement ring:
Hi girls,

Today I went to a wedding fayre and tried on lots of wedding rings.... As my engagement ring is platinum I am going to have to have a platinum wedding band.
Well I thought I would until a lady told me about Palladium..!? Apparently it's exactly the same as platinum, colour wise and won't fade.. Except it's more lightweight and half the price.
I have my reservations for obvious reasons but I wondered if any of you have come across Palladium and is it as wonderful as the lady made it out to be!?
Just adding - the rings she sells are designed and made by a small company and come with a lifetime guarantee.

Thanks Xxx

tinks1985 @mrshtob me and my h2b want palladium wedding rings! They are just as good as platinum but without the hefty price tag. We have tried a couple on and they felt really nice to wear. I thought my h2b was joking when he told me that he wanted palladium rings (he's a super hero nerd and apparently part of his favourite super hero's suit is made in palladium) but they are lovely

loves_to_dance @mrshtob I think palladium is getting quite common now as a cheaper alternative to platinum with many of the same properties. I've come across it with all the jewelers I've spoken to. Apparently the price is starting to go up now that people are catching on to it and it is become more popular. If you have a platinum engagement ring, I would seriously consider palladium for your wedding band.

mrshtob The prices are so different... It's a bit too good to be true almost! Well I think I'm sold on Palladium and we will be ordering them soon to get them at the best prices.
The company they are from literally make them how you like, add diamonds etc and keep looking after them forever, resizing and polishing them when needed. Which I think is Fab! x

mrswilsonme @mrshtob We had Smooch rings round today and the man told us the same thing. We have bought palladium rings because they are of the same quality, if not better and half the price I trust what he said because he could have made more money out of the platinum ones x
