Hey all. We had our temporary quote through from the venue this week, subject to change as we finalise guest numbers, but I just wondered what everyone else is paying? This seems a fabulously good deal to me: overall it'll come to £2500 (slightly over), which includes:
- ceremony, reception and evening disco; it's all happening on site,
- use of a (reasonably priced) cash bar until 1 in the morning,
- sit-down meal for 65 people,
- the DJ,
- two wedding cars,
- chair covers and sashes,
- swags for the top table, the registrar's table and the cake table,
- LED backdrop for the top table and cake table,
- a fruit palm tree,
-welcome drinks of champagne or Pimms for the guests,
- the bridal suite.
I'm sure there's more, too, I may be forgetting. It also includes Babs the wedding co-ordinator, the jolliest woman in south Wales, who is super-organised and willing to stress about the details so I don't have to. She's lovely, you'd love Babs. Oh, and they're willing for me to bring in savoury nibbles, no charge, that they will then put into bowls for me for my evening guests, rather than buying one of their buffets. It's quite astonishing.
I was expecting far less for far more money, though. Anyone else been this lucky?

tassarella@quoth_the_raven That is a great deal hun . We got lucky with our venues too. £75 to get married at our church and £510 for meal for 34 people, reasonably priced cash bar, all table linens and napkins etc, the DJ, all staff, Margot (our wedding co-ordinator) and lots of other little bits and pieces too. They're also letting us bring in a sweetie buffet at no extra charge. The only thing they've stung us with is the corkage for the champagne we're bringing in. My Uncle is paying that for us though (as well as having bought us the champagne in the first place . xx

danndy44@quoth_the_raven @tassarella wow they're great prices. We are paying about £750 in room hire but that is the whole place for the whole day, then £20 a head for a three course meal so for 70 people it will be £1400, wine and fizz will be about £500-£600 and buffett will be about £8-£10 a head and use of a reasonably priced cash bar. They wanted to charge for chair covers and round table linen so I opted for a horse shoe table shape so I don't have to pay £20 per table and we're not having chair covers, don't know how the blue chairs will work with the purple theme but I'm not going to stress myself over it. We've had to pay for DJ (£160) and wedding car (£175) on top of all of this but we're paying for the location you can't beat the Hoe in Plymouth right over the water.

munchkin79@quoth_the_raven should've moved my whole party over from Essex to south Wales for a deal that good. our ceremony is £400 then the reception is costing us £4775 for sit down meal meal for 50, half bottle wine each, welcome and toast drinks, dj and chair covers And a buffet for 100. It's a lovely location and best deal i could find for my location. so sweetheart you got yourself a cracking bargain.

tassarella@danndy44 I'm also getting married in Plymouth near the Hoe . Planning on getting some great pics around Smeatons tower etc. I'm not having chair covers either and wondering how blue chairs will go with a ivory, pink and teal theme but it was £4.50 per chair cover and sash and it just seems like a lot of money to me for something a lot of people wouldn't even notice. Where is your venue? Yes I've had to pay wedding car on top too, also £175. Don't suppose yours is the Mercedes S Class as well??

fabulousfebruary@quoth_the_raven wow! That's an amazing price! Our venue is ours for £750 and then they have a minimum spent policy of £5,500. It;s up to us how we get there ie. meal for 80 people, drinks, hotel rooms, evening buffet etc.
Yours sounds like a great deal! We had to book all entertainment etc by ourselves and of course it's costing more. So you've done really well!

danndy44@tassarella Haha love it. Getting married at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club right in front of the citadel, I'm hoping for great weather becausei've planned all my photography around Smeaton's Tower. It is the Mercedes S Class, the cheapest car I could find in Plymouth, and Martin is so lovely. I got a similar quote for the chair covers put I have seen them cheaper online for hire but I would rather spend the money on something else, I doubt anyone will notice.

@candh We're getting married in Manor Park Country Hotel, a place in Swansea. I generally do find that prices in Wales are cheaper than over the border; my sister moved to London, and as standard her living costs seem to be twice mine! But even with Automatic Welsh Reduction, we went for Manor Park because it seemed to offer more for the same prices everywhere else around us was charging. Now that we're closer to it and the details are getting arranged, I think I've been proven right.
@rainbowflorist They do seem to! We got our date because someone else had cancelled, actually. They also do conferences and proms and the like, so they're fairly busy all the time.
@mrsm @jen150912 Those look pretty good deals, actually. One thing my venue doesn't offer at all is menu printing, or any other kind of printing for that matter, so well done on those.
@ajb2b Well, if it's where you want then that's all there is to it, really! And you aren't alone. I know a few people who paid around £6000 for venue hire alone, it's not uncommon. People do like to fleece you when you say the word 'wedding', don't they?
Cheers all! It did seem good.

tassarella@missmaxine - yes ours is a Baptist Church so it doesn't have the same legal fees as a C of E church. And because we're regular attendants they haven't charged us a fee to hire the actual church
@dandy44 - yes Martin is lovely. Same for the cheapest car I could find, but it is a very nice car and brilliant price. It is gorgeous around the Hoe . We're having our reception at the Pavillions so very near by. Your venue is gorgeous .
@quoth_the_raven Absolutely thrilled as must you be. It took me ages to find and was beginning to think I wouldn't be able to find anything I liked within our price range. Actually saw an advertisement for it and the deal when we went to give notice at the registry office so think it was meant to be

danndy44@tassarella Yeah, I love the car as well, I wanted a VW camper van, but the quote I got was nearly £400, I didn't even bother emailing back, I'm happy with my choice though, a bit of luxury on our special day. The Pavilions is an amazing place to have a reception, didn't know you could have a reception there. I think my H2B had his graduation ceremony there but also his exams when he was at Plym University. Such a lovely space and really central. You staying in any of the hotels around there? I'm staying in the Duke of Cornwall for our night.

tassarella@danndy44 Yes I had three exams there this year (still at plym uni) and knowing my wedding reception was going to be there actually calmed my nerves down lol. My graduation will be on the Hoe though (plym uni get big marquees etc for us). I didn't even think of looking there until I saw a leaflet at the registry office. Apparantly we're the last wedding they are doing though!! So think we lucked in. Yeah I'm staying in the New Continental which is just across the way from Duke of Cornwall . Staying there the night before and the night of the wedding .
