Hi, I read an article a while ago about how you shouldn't have too many bridesmaids if you can't afford them and it's got me worrying about how much the bridesmaids are going to be expecting me to get for them. What things are you paying for them for the wedding? like shoes, dresses, hen party, hotel, presents.

laraandsteve@annewatts88 Dress (which should be about £100 each) hair accessories and hair on the day (only cos I'm getting it quite cheap) They know they have to buy their own shoes and do their own make up. I'm also getting them some ear rings as their thank you presents from Beaverbrookes (as I have some vouchers left over)
I was BM for one of my BM's and she bought us everything, including jewellery for the day but she had us all as clones of each other! She also had the whole venue and food paid for by her parents so had more money than me!! x

joski28@annewatts88 I'm paying for the dress, jewellery (as a thank you present though) and shoes at the moment. If I aquire any more money on the budget I'll be paying for their hair too but only if I have enough money, otherwise they will pay for that themselves Oh, and hair clips if they want them. x

sophie2bgillies@annewatts88 I'm paying for their dresses, which were going to be £150 for both but got them slightly cheaper for £59 for both! That means I can afford to pay for their hair and will be doing same as other girls, buying them a necklace for their thank you gift, but they will be doing their own make up and paying for their own shoes x

baldwin2bconnolly@annewatts88 We have bought their dresses which were £90 each but we got 20% off them so they came to £72 each, we will be paying for their hair and make up to be done on the day (for both hair and make up its only cost £27.50 per person). We have asked our bm's to buy their own shoes as you cant seem them under the dress and i want them to have shoes they would wear again.
We have bought each of them a necklace to wear on the day as a 'Thank You' gift.

I personally agree with that article as I felt that because I had asked my bridesmaids to be part of the bridal party that we should pay for what they will be wearing. We had four Bridesmaids and we bought their dresses which were £155 each, Shoes £25 each, Clutch Bag £15 each, Diamante bracelet £10 each, Diamante earrings £ 8 each, Diamante headband £5 each and then we paid for their hair and make up to be done too. When buying all the items I chatted with my Bridesmaids and I bought everything that they all said they would wear again so they can get more than one use out of them so they don't just get thrown into the back of a wardrobe or drawer. We also bought their Thank You gifts which were silver photograph frames which cost £12 reduced from £45 in a sale at John Lewis. As for accommodation, my bridesmaids all stayed with me the night before the wedding at the venue which we paid for as I wanted everyone to be in one place so I wasn't stressing the morning of the wedding but the night of the wedding they paid for their own rooms if they wanted to stay as the venue was local to them all if they wanted to go home

tinks1985@annewatts88 i am only paying for my bridesmaids dresses, hair and their bouquets. They have been notoriously fussy since i started planning my wedding so if i was to try and choose jewellery, shoes, hair accessories etc for them they would probably complain. So i have told them they need to sort this stuff out themselves but that they need to all buy the same shoes as their dresses are short and i think it will look odd if their shoes don't match. This way they can fight it out between themselves which shoes they buy and i don't have to be a part of it and get stressed out. I'm not so fussed about them all having the same jewellery or hair accessories so i don't need to have a say in that.

laubabeuk@annewatts88 2 bridesmaids. Dresses were £160 each, shrugs £45 each, shoes £35 each, necklace and bracelets £50 each. We are also paying to have the dresses altered and for their hair and make up on the day! So expensive when you add it all up!! We are hoping that they will pay for their shoes although we haven't actually asked them yet!!
They are paying for their own accommodation for the wedding and they will pay for hen do.
We have 2 flower girls (my nieces) and their dresses were £35 each. Their mum (my sister) is paying for one dress and she will also buy shrugs, tights and shoes for them xx

accidentallyme@annewatts88 am paying for the hotel the night before (£139), hair done on the day (£40) and her dress (£180). After I'd told her no, she asked me again if I'd pay £85 for a pair of shoes she liked...the answer's still no!
For my flower girl am just paying for her dress, which will be about £50. Phew!

futuremrsd@annewatts88 I have four bridesmaids and have bought their dresses and will pay alterartions (although they have offered to pay alterartions but would feel bad!), I have paid hair on day and make up (although my friend is a wedding make up artist so I have got make up for free for them to be fair!). I have bought hair clips for them (they were £3.50 each in the sale though!). They will be buying their own shoes as I just think its easier for them to get something they like as no-one will see them anyway and they will be getting their own bag (if they want one) and jewelrey as they have quite different tastes so again it was just easier and they're quite happy with this! I am also paying for rooms the night before the wedding as I want them all at the venue but they will pay their own on the night of the wedding. Gift wise, I am trying to get lots of little bits that don't cost too much- so far I have slippers and dressing gowns for getting ready/night before, will make them all a scrapbook of photos, etc of us over the years as a more sentimental gift and will do them a wedding day survival kit (i.e. cheap things like tissues, mints, etc) for the day. I will probably get them a nicer gift too (i.e. jewelery or photo frame or something but nothing too expensive- going for thought over cost on pressies!) Think that covers most things! x

I paid for my two bridesmaids dresses (around £300 each after alterations), their bouquets (£50 each) and clutch bags (£15 each). I just couldn't afford anymore. I let them pick their own dresses though for a compromise and will be getting them pressies too. I left it up to them about staying over at the venue, shoes and said i would help them with their hair and make up on the morning. Hopefully they don't think I'm too scringey!!

I am paying for their dresses (£115 each), flowers (£30 each), shoes (£20 each), hairband (£5 for 5 from ebay) and (gift) jewellery (£34.99 each). My mom has kindly offered to pay for their hair as she is getting her hairdresser (who comes to the house) to do it as he said he will do them for a tenner each.

jen150912@annewatts88 I've got 3 BMs and 3 FGs - for my BMs I've bought their hair slides, will be paying for their dresses and bouquets, but they'll be paying for their own shoes as I don't really care what they look like as they'll be hidden under a long dress! We'll split the cost of hair and makeup between us all (if we get something reasonable!) and they're paying for their own hotel rooms. For my FGs, I'm paying nothing for the youngest one - a week after I asked her mum & gran if we could have her as our FG, she told me that she'd put £150 away to cover the cost of her outfit...!! Didn't expect that, but was very grateful! For the other 2 FGs I will probably be paying for their dresses, cardigans, shoes & hair accessories, but I'm going to ask their mums if they'll buy the cardigans and shoes, as they'll more than likely get wear out of them again. (and if I don't ask, I won't know!) xx

I have 4 BM's and bought all their dresses, they're getting their own shoes as they're all so different i'd never get something they'd all like and i'd like them to be comfortable so have said to just get something comfortable and then they can also get something they'd wear again! Not paying for hair but a friend is doing mine so will do theirs too; not paying for makeup as it's extortionate just for me and i'm not sure they'd even want theirs done (there has been mutterings that they would prefer to do their own.
Hotel, i'm going to pay for the night before as i want them to stay there with me, but not the night of the wedding. Hen party - they're meant to pay for you - although i don't reckon mine will be able to afford it!
Presents i'm thinking of getting frames and telling them to choose a pic they love and we'll print it for them after the wedding. Jewellery - i can't decide what to do, was going to get necklaces to match but struggling to find anythig i like for them all, may just say they can wear whatever, i don't think it matters if they don't exactly match?

I have six bridesmaids and two flowers girls and have paid for all of their dresses. The dresses are long and they have each said they want different styles of shoes so I'm leaving that to them to sort. I will be paying for their hair but they have all said they want to do their own makeup other than my MOH. I will be buying their jewellery and a little gift each. Hen do they have all paid themselves. Xx

I have one bridesmaid and two flower girls, I have paid for everything for all of them. I have been on the end of someone telling me I have to pay £100 for a dress I didn't like so didn't want any of our wedding party to have to pay for theirs... although they are gorgeous. My bridesmaid dress was £155, shoes £25, have bought jewellery as thank you gift £34 and think I will be paying for her hair and make up too. Little girls dresses cost £35, cardigan £11 and still need to get shoes and hair accessories. Their mum's have offered to contribute but I told them not to worry, nice to treat their little ladies! x

I have 2 adult bm and I have bought their dresses and will pay for their hair to be done. They are buying their own shoes and for the hen do for themselves. I've also got 2 flower girls and I have bought their dresses and cardigans. Their mum is sorting out their shoes but I will probably pay for them. I am thinking of getting my bridesmaids jewelery as their presents, but not necessarily to be worn on the day. Both girls will probably stay at my mum and dad's the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding too.

Wedding on a bit of a budget but I've got 4 bridesmaids and 2 flowegirls, the bridesmaids dresses were £48 each, which they are paying for, i have bought them tiara's each (smaller than my one of course but effective) have asked them to get together and purchase matching shoes themselves and i have bought them matching earing and necklace sets as gifts. Their hair and make up together is £35 each which they will pay but if anyone has difficaulties then i will help them out, wish i could pay everything for them, but just don't have the money! I know they will look beautiful.
