I have reccently been asking myself what I am going to do with my wedding dress once the wedding day is actually over, the dress that took me endless hours of looking through bridal magazines and websites, searching through the endless rows of dresses at bridal stores to find. Its something until now I had never really thought of. I know that many brides get their wedding dresses cleaned and preserved, packed away into a box where it is then stored away and doesnt see the light of day for a very long time but I really do not see the point to this, its not me.
I have been looking around at other options and I really like the idea of a "Trash the Dress" photo shoot, putting my dress on one last time and going out on location somewhere totally different and creating a new set of memories and images.
I know some people may think me totally mad even considering it but ,the truth in the matter is that I only plan to wear my wedding dress once and because I had the dress made for me I do not like the thought of anyone else ever wearing it other than me. So instead of letting it fester away in a box stored away somewhere to never see the light of day again I might as well use it one last time, a way in which I can create some memories, some fun unique images to keep and look back on...
So I wondered what do all you girls plan to do with your dress after the big day?? xx

missengaged@essex_bride I think your idea sounds very unique!! Not heard of it before but so much better than shoving it in the loft to never be seen again!! I am thinking I may well sell mine, but then not worn it for the day yet so may change my mind once I have!! I know one thing I am definitely doing though once wedding is over!! My Sis in law, along with some of her friends are going to have a 'wedding dress night' party, which I think will be great fun......little weird if the neighbours could see in but can't wait to do that!! x

I really want to do a 'trash the dress' shoot too but my mum has horrified by the idea! lol
There are some amazing videos online of trashing dresses as well as photos.

SELL! My dress was bloody expensive so need to sell to recoup cost.
Like you I do not see the point of hanging on to the dress. Total waste - the dress is supposed to be worn and loved and I will be really happy to think of it being worn by other brides after me.
This is also why I think Trash The Dress photoshoots are a horrible idea - what a way to treat the dress that as you say you took so long choosing with care. Waste of money that you spent on it; waste of a dress that you not only so lovingly chose but that somebody else probably also made with care. Even worse than keeping hold of it imo.

essex_bride@angelil See I personally cannot stand the thought of someone wearing the dress I had made for me and dont see the point of the dress festering in a box in the loft for years to come so by doing a tress the dress shoot at least im creating some more memories of the dress and some great images x

stella4ben@essex_bride I want to do a trash the dress shoot too, and after looking into it, depending on what you actually do, you might not actually 'trash it'. For example if you only get it wet or muddy etc, then you can always have it dry cleaned after. I'd like to do a th the dress shoot and then still keep my dress after either to be made into christening gowns or even to keep in case my kids want it. I don't think I would get much for it second hand anyway if I wanted to sell it so I may as well keep it to admire it xx

essex_bride@stella4ben I've seen some fab images on-line where like you say the dress isn't really trashed. For example underwater shoots, the bride going horse riding or to a beach somewhere or even to a fun fair where they go on the rides in the dress... I don't think I could go as far as messing around with paint like Ive seen some shoots do

tassarella@essex_bride I really like the idea of a trash the dress shoot as well. I love the idea of horse-riding in my dress (I'm a horse-rider anyway). My dress is second hand as we're on a very tight budget and the one I fell in complete love with was out of season anyway. As I didn't pay a complete fortune for it I don't feel guilty for trashing it and having one last 'fling' as it were with the dress that I love. I think its up to each bride what they do with their dress and some may think the idea crazy or bad but personally I think its a fabulous way of getting some really unique shots that you wouldn't normally get. There is a bombed out church near us that I'm going to get my photographer to take some shoots of me in the dress in there after the wedding.

I love the episode on Friends where Monica does the washing up in the wedding dress and then all the girls have a girls night in dressed up in wedding dresses too.....I can soooooo see myself doing this every weekend when H2B is at football....so i think I will probably sell mine just to be on the safe side..... I dont want to become the weird lady that lives in her wedding dress either lol

I must admit i don't really understand the trash the dress - each to their own but i think i'm more likely to love the pics of me in it on my wedding day looking pristine than me in it looking muddy and ruined.... even if it's not totally ruined it's still not going to look lovely like on the day. i'm sure after the amount of alcohol we'll consume at the wedding there'll be a couple of those anyway lol!!
I'm going to keep mine, unfortunately i'm a big softie and very sentimental so i can't imagine not having my wedding dress to show my kids. I know they might not want to wear it but i know i'd have loved to have been able to see my mums but she didn't have it anymore as it got lost in a move.
@missengaged i LOVE the idea of a wedding dress party!! soo gonna do that!!

ruthlydia@essex_bride I love the idea of trash the dress and think photos of wedding dresses rolling around in sand or mud are fantastic - just so far from how you ever see a wedding dress! However, I don't think I could ever do this to mine! Other photographers do a variation of these shoots and call them things like 'Rock the dress' where you basically have a photo shoot in different surroundings. I might do one of those and then pack it up safely in the loft. Who knows, maybe one day I will have a daughter who might like to wear it. x x

Do not know when the wedding will be
nextmrstaylor@missengaged thats a great idea about having a wedding dress party, my hubby to be cousin did something similar for her 30th birthday last year (she happens to share the same birthday as me but is one year younger) she had always said if she's not married by the time she's 30 shes gonna have a fancy dress party with a wedding theme, she wore a wedding dress herself and looked great (I've already thought if I need to get a dress quickly might ask if i can borrow hers as we're both similar sizes, lol) a couple of her male friends turned up in wedding dresses too, and she also made a 'bouquet' costume for one of her friends, it looked really good, the girl wore green tights and then she had sown on lots of fake green flowers

I think I will be donating mine to Cornwall Hospice Care to auction off to make money for them. They are wonderful people and cared for H2B's mum very well when she was dying. xxx

We got married 6 months ago and I have to admit my dress is still hanging up in our spare bedroom! I am still undecided!! It is MY dress so don't want to sell it. Got a bargain so don't need to sell it. At the moment I still just like seeing it hung up. I suppose at some point I'll have to decide what to do with it!

I am loving the idea of a 'wedding dress party'! I'll be the third of my mates to be married (unless there's a shotgun one between now and then!) so it might only be a small party unless the bridesmaids get in on the act too! Ha!
My dress 'only' cost me £195 (ex-sample, but brand new with tags) so it's not really worth me selling on. I know that mum would love me to use it for christening gowns for the grandkids she's expecting(!) but I like the idea of having it altered and dyed to a posh party frock...
I'll see how I feel after the wedding - as I am constantly reminded, it is 18mths away lol! x

I think I will probably end up storing mine away. For one simple reason - when I have kids! I loved looking at my mum's wedding dress when I was little and I want my kids to be able to look at and feel mine. I am such a big softie!

I love the trash the dress idea but im far too sentimental to go through with it myself, plus as my family has never been big on keeping heirlooms i want to keep it to pass on to anyone who may want to wear it or to keep just to look at when im old and grey! x

meeeshel@laurasday that's a lovely idea, actually my dress the bodice is very fitted and the bottom is big and poufy so it's almost two seperate parts, if that makes sense so i think it'd work with mine - might have to consider that too!

There are Wedding dress balls- for cancer research I think, where all the women come in their wedding dresses. ..
Would love to get mine altered so I could use it again, but it's just adding more money to the cost.

laurasday@heggy yeah it is an extra cost but i figure im paying x amount already for a dress to wear once why not a lil more after weve gotten over the wedding costs to be able to have a few more wears out of it
